Model of Complex Heat Transfer in the Package of Rectangular Steel Sections

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
During heat treatment of rectangular steel sections, a heated charge in the form of regularly arranged packages is placed in a furnace. The article presents a model of a complex heat transfer in such a package using the thermo-electric analogy. The model

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

The Tale of the Residual Tail: Insights From Continuous Intracranial Monitoring From Post‐Hippocampectomy Dynamics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Subtotal hippocampal resection can leave residual hippocampal tissue, yet the immediate postoperative electrophysiologic evolution of such remnants is unknown. We describe a patient with drug‐resistant temporal lobe epilepsy in whom a hippocampal remnant was continuously monitored using a responsive neurostimulator (RNS) following subtotal ...

Identification of the Building Envelope Performance of a Residential Building: A Case Study

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Since households are one of the most energy-intensive sectors in Europe, retrofit of dwellings is promoted to increase energy efficiency. Recent research, however, shows that the energy performance after retrofit does not always meet the target values ...

Effect of Electron-Phonon Coupling on Thermal Transport across Metal-Nonmetal Interface - A Second Look

open access: yes, 2015
The effect of electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling on thermal transport across metal-nonmetal interfaces is yet to be completely understood. In this paper, we use a series of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations with e-ph coupling effect included by Langevin ...

Thickness-dependent thermal properties of amorphous insulating thin films measured by photoreflectance microscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this work, we report on the measurement of the thermal conductivity of thin insulating films of SiO2 obtained by thermal oxidation, and Al2O3 grown by atomic layer deposition (ALD), both on Si wafers.

Recurrent Hypothermia and Autonomic Dysfunction Secondary to Shapiro Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 44‐year‐old man presented with recurrent hypothermia, diaphoresis and hypertension. Extensive investigation for infectious, inflammatory, metabolic and endocrine aetiologies was negative. MR scan of the brain demonstrated no lesions but revealed callosal dysgenesis, consistent with Shapiro syndrome.

Thermal Characteristics of Staggered Double-Layer Microchannel Heat Sink

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The present work numerically studies the thermal characteristics of a staggered double-layer microchannel heat sink (DLMCHS) with an offset between the upper layer of microchannels and lower layer of microchannels in the width direction, and investigates

Analysis of the Impact of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) on Reducing the Demand for Electricity and Heat in Buildings Located in Poland

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Based on a method to reduce energy consumption suggested in a real energy audit carried out in an industrial plant located in Poznań (city in Poland), the potential of using photovoltaic (PV) panels as wall cladding was analyzed, in order to reduce ...
