Thermal subjective sensations of motorcyclists

Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2013
The purpose of motorcycle clothing is to protect the motorcyclist not only against weather conditions but also against an unforeseen contact with other objects. Nevertheless, the use of such clothing, especially in summer, is related to overheating of the motorcyclist's body. Therefore, it would be advisable to ensure that appropriate protection is not

Uniformity of stratum-ventilated thermal environment and thermal sensation

Indoor Air, 2014
Three human test series were conducted to evaluate the uniformity of the thermal environments in a stratum-ventilated chamber with dimensions of 8.8 m (L) × 5.1 m (W) × 2.4 m (H). In all, nineteen conditions were generated by adjusting the room temperature, supply airflow rate, and supply terminal type.

Psychological adaptation to thermal environments and its effects on thermal sensation

Physiology & Behavior, 2022
Psychological adaptation to thermal environments might play an important role in the human thermal comfort. However, effects of psychological thermal adaptation on thermal comfort have been rarely studied. To investigate building occupants' psychological adaptation to indoor climates in hot summer and cold winter, a long-term tracking survey within a ...

A study of thermal sensation with visuo-thermal projection interfaces

2013 IEEE 2nd Global Conference on Consumer Electronics (GCCE), 2013
In this study, we propose a visuo-thermal projection interface to provide a visible image and a thermal sensation with a distant user for tele-communication. Most previous systems providing a thermal sensation to a user require him/her to touch special devices.

Thermal pleasantness sensation: an indicator of thermal stress

European Journal of Applied Physiology and Occupational Physiology, 1982
The degree of pleasantness or unpleasantness of thermal sensation aroused by a particular peripheral thermal stimulus has been shown to be an indicator of thermal state of the body in relation to the thermoregulatory set point. This phenomenon is known as thermal alliesthesia.

Thermal Sensation Display with Controllable Thermal Conductivity

2019 20th International Conference on Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems & Eurosensors XXXIII (TRANSDUCERS & EUROSENSORS XXXIII), 2019
We demonstrate a thermal sensation display that can present various thermal sensation by varying the thermal conductivity of the display. Thermal sensation, i.e., cold/cool/warm/hot, is one of the major tactile sensations and needs to be further investigated to advanced VR/AR systems.

Thermal Sensations of Solomon Islanders at Home

Architectural Science Review, 1981
This paper acknowledges the difficulty of taking into account factors, such as thermal comfort in house design, as they can only be assessed in subjective terms. An attempt to solve these Problems was made as part of a field study of indigenous people in a tropical area - in this case the Solomon Islands.

Usability of Thermal Sensation Voting Device

2016
Indoor climate has a key role on the performance of office workers. To assess the thermal comfort of a room, some models have been proposed. However, even with those models, manage and control all variables related to thermal comfort is a complex task. To simplify this process, a simple device that allows workers to vote if the indoor climate is “hot”,

Thermal Sensation Under Unsteady Thermal Environments

Advances in Bioengineering, 2002
As the absolute level of thermal sensation is vague for human beings, one cannot correctly select the absolute level of the multi-point thermal sensation scale with any kinds of precise classification. To achieve a breakthrough in such a situation, we propose a new voting method based on the relative change of thermal sensation, and investigate the ...

Temperature control for thermal sensation based on thermal diffusion equation

2016 IEEE 25th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2016
Technique of rendering thermal sensation can connect people who are in remote locations, such as teletherapy and a multimodal system. Humans feel detailed temperature distribution and recognize the characteristic of a contacting object. Although, conventional method can only render the thermal sensation of a fingertip or a part of a hand.
