Over the edge: Empirical evidence for the cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection

Abstract The cliff‐edge model of obstetric selection maintains that larger neonates and smaller birth canals confer a positive selective advantage until labor becomes obstructed and vaginal delivery is no longer possible, eliciting an abrupt reduction in fitness.

Use of Restricted Nursing and a Bovine Appeasing Substance on the Welfare, Growth Performance, and Response to Vaccination of Beef Calves at Weaning

Animal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The effects of restricted nursing (RN) and the administration of a bovine appeasing substance (BAS) on days −8 and 0 in relation to weaning were evaluated. Both strategies were effective in improving the growth performance of beef calves. Regarding welfare, BAS ‐especially on day 0‐ was more effective than RN.

Inosine triphosphate pyrophosphatase activity as a potential predictor of methotrexate remission in juvenile idiopathic arthritis

Background Methotrexate (MTX) is the first‐line therapy for juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), but up to 40% of patients don't respond. Low inosine‐triphosphate‐pyrophosphatase (ITPA) activity has been associated with reduced clinical remission. We investigated ITPA role and the underlying mechanisms in vitro.
