Simulation on thermal stratification and de-stratification in liquefied gas tanks
International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2013Abstract The phenomena of thermal stratification and de-stratification in liquefied gas tanks with heat leak through the side wall were researched numerically. The calculating model developed on ANSYS FLUENT 12.0 was verified through the experimental results from literature.

Thermal stratification within the water tank
Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2009To sufficiently store and use high-quality heat energy, thermal stratification is gradually applied in many kinds of energy storage fields such as solar thermal utilization system. Because of the unsteady characteristics of solar radiation, thermal storage becomes very essential in long-term operation of heating load.

Thermal Stratification in Lakes
Nature, 1936EARLY in this century, Thienemann1 and Naumann2 described the physical conditions in deep freshwater lakes in the temperate zone. They found a yearly cycle of events which depended on the thermal stratification of the water. Their findings, and the conclusions they drew from them, can be summarized briefly, as follows.

Thermal Stratification in the Arctic Ocean
Science, 1969Fine scale measurements of the vertical temperature profile in an Arctic water column show the presence of several cascaded isothermal layers. Layers between the depths of 300 and 350 meters range from 2 to 10 meters in thickness, while the temperature change between adjacent layers is approximately 0.026°C.

Thermal Stratification in a Steel Ladle
Canadian Metallurgical Quarterly, 2001AbstractThe present paper describes a numerical investigation of thermal stratification in a ladle with molten steel with and without gas injection. Transient flow and thermal stratification in the ladle without gas injection is first simulated. The ladle refractory layers including the working lining, safety lining, insulation layer and steel shell ...

THE ROLE OF BIOCONVECTION IN PLANKTON POPULATION WITH THERMAL STRATIFICATION
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2010This paper investigates hydrodynamic processes of suspended planktonic population within a thermal stratification to represent a thermocline, in using a model of coupled equations: Navier–Stokes' equation for the fluid dynamic motion, Fisher's equation for the planktonic population with logistic growth, energy conservation equation for thermal effects

Ratcheting due to Thermal Stratification
Volume 1: Codes and Standards, 2019Abstract Thermal ratcheting is required to be checked by most of the piping design codes, specifically the ASME B&PV Code. For cases where the variation of temperature distribution is not uniform, the existing ratchet check methodology for piping is inadequate and therefore the finite element analysis (FEA) is often used to perform ...

Thermal Plume and Stratification
2011Visualization by synthetic schlieren of the filling box process with fluid heated by a thermal source located on the floor. A constant power of 73 W is released in a 25 cm tall, closed, insulated box filled with water. The initial temperature of the fluid is uniform and equal to the environment.

Thermal Stratification in Spherical Tanks
Volume 1: Combined Energy Cycles, CHP, CCHP, and Smart Grids; Concentrating Solar Power, Solar Thermochemistry and Thermal Energy Storage; Geothermal, Ocean, and Emerging Energy Technologies; Hydrogen Energy Technologies; Low/Zero Emission Power Plants and Carbon Sequestration; Photovoltaics; Wind Energy Systems and Technologies, 2014Spherical tanks have the potential for cost reduction in sensible thermal energy storage (TES) systems, by using less tank building material and insulation. The current CFD study compares the Thermal Efficiency (TE) of a thermocline storage system in a spherical tank to a cylindrical tank of the same volume.
