Thermal conductance and its relation to thermal time constants
Journal of Thermal Biology, 1981Abstract A large body of thermoregulation studies exists in which the proper relationship between the physiological variable, thermal conductance, and heating or cooling time is not recognized. This is owing, in part, to conflicting definitions of conductance which either fail to relate to mean heat flow through the body surface or which fail to ...

Space-Time Dependencies and Thermal Perception
2016This experiment was focused on determining whether the spatial representation of thermal stimuli is influenced by the temporal parameters of stimulation as has been demonstrated for tactile stimuli. Four warm thermal pulses within the innocuous range of temperatures were presented on the forearm in varying spatial and temporal sequences.

Thermal time response of microfilaments
2000 IEEE/LEOS International Conference on Optical MEMS (Cat. No.00EX399), 2002The thermal time response of polysilicon microfilaments has been characterized at high and room temperatures. We have found cool down time constants that are several times lower at room temperature than for equivalent filaments at high temperatures. It is proposed that the cool down transient can be directly controlled by "substrate quenching," where ...

Thermal-blooming time constant
Journal of the Optical Society of America, 1982Thermal blooming is analyzed by using a wave-propagation code to determine the speed of response of the blooming effect to changes in the transmitted laser beam. Results are developed to indicate where along the propagation path the dominant part of the thermal-blooming effects arise.

The thermal model providing motor overload protection is derived from the first order differential equation for heat rise due to current in a conductor. Only the stator thermal time constant and the service factor are the required settings. The thermal model utilizes the full thermal capacity of the motor and allows current swings and cyclic overloads ...

Thermal converter time constant and response time
Electrical Engineering, 1958THE DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS of a thermal converter∗ for measuring alternating current or voltage are of some importance in a number of applications. Of these, the time constant and response time are the characteristics most often required. The change of emf of a thermal converter after a step change in heater current is only approximately exponential ...

The determination of thermal lagging times
Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1947The problem discussed in this paper arose out of the need for accurately determining the temperature of a barometer under conditions of varying air temperature. A method for computing the thermal lag of simple and complex bodies of cylindrical form, when the ambient temperature is changing steadily, is given and formulae derived for determining the ...
