Thermal time - concepts and utility

Annals of Applied Biology, 2005
This paper (i) reviews temperature/development rate relationships in plants and poikilothermic invertebrates, (ii) argues that the relationship is often linear over much of the range up to the thermal optimum (T o ) and provides a possible mechanism, (iii) provides evidence of a trade-off between the base temperature (T b ) and the thermal constant (DD)

Time Delay Affects Thermal Discrimination

IEEE Transactions on Haptics, 2022
Time order errors have been investigated in several fields, and the time delay between subsequent stimuli in discrimination tasks is one example of such errors. However, the effect of these types of errors in thermal discrimination tasks is understudied.

Numerical and experimental validation of variation of power transformers’ thermal time constants with load factor

open access: yesApplied Thermal Engineering, 2017
Thermal time constants (TTC) of a thermal dynamic model reflect the change rate of temperature, which are affected by many factors such as load current, oil temperature, etc.

Estimating the Time of a Thermal Meltdown

Proceedings of the 2005 IEEE International Symposium on, Mediterrean Conference on Control and Automation Intelligent Control, 2005., 2005
The paper investigates the transient behavior of a nonlinear heat process, described by a second order, nonlinear partial differential equation with given boundary-and initial conditions. The PDE may describe various physical processes, but we interpret in this case as a thermal process with exponential inner heat source.

Time Constants of the Vestibular Thermal Reaction

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1989
For the thermal test, adaptation time constants of about 100 s are described in the literature. By automatically alternating hot-cold irrigation, as designed by us, precision of stimulus application of different temperatures was considerably improved. Furthermore, temperature was registered with a thermocouple device.

Time constants in thermal laser medicine

Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1989
AbstractTemperature rise of laser‐irradiated tissue due to direct absorption of laser light is related to laser parameters (power, spot size, irradiation time, and repetition rate) and tissue parameters (absorption and scattering coefficients, density, heat capacity, and thermal conductivity).

Thermal effects on real-time systems

ACM SIGBED Review, 2008
In our research, we study how real-time systems are affected by thermal management to satisfy the temperature constraint. In temperature-constrained real-time systems, deadline guarantees must be met without exceeding safe temperature level of the processor.

Time constants in thermal laser medicine: II. Distributions of time constants and thermal relaxation of tissue

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1996
The thermal response of a semi-infinite medium in air, irradiated by laser light in a cylindrical geometry, cannot accurately be approximately by single radial and axial time constants for heat conduction. This report presents an analytical analysis of hear conduction where the thermal response is expressed in terms of distributions over radial and ...
