Thermoacoustic instability in solid media
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2018The exploration of thermoacoustic oscillations can be traced back to the 19th century when Sondhauss (1850) performed an experimental investigation that marked the birth of modern thermoacoustic research. Since then, several practical applications of the basic thermoacoustic effect were explored and ultimately led to the design of engineering devices ...

Nonlinear saturation of thermoacoustic instability
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1999In earlier work [Watanabe et al., J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 102, 3484–3496 (1997)] a quasi-one-dimensional nonlinear model for thermoacoustic devices was developed. The model reduces exactly to the well-known Rott theory upon linearization, but numerical work has shown that it is also able to predict nonlinear features in agreement with experiment.

Thermoacoustic instabilities: Modeling and control
IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2003The goal of this study was twofold. First, modeling strategies were proposed to characterize the dynamics driving the thermoacoustic instabilities in a swirl-stabilized premixed burner. Second, this model was used to synthesize controllers in order to apply active control strategies to suppress this phenomenon.

Actively passive control of thermoacoustic instability
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2017In this work, experimental studies of actively passive control of perforated liner with a bias flow on mitigating thermoacoustic instability are performed. For this, a well-designed Rijke-type thermoacoustic combustor with a perforated liner implemented is designed. A premixed propane-fueled flame is confined in the bottom half.

Hybrid Control for Thermoacoustic Instabilities
Dynamic Systems and Control: Volume 1, 2000Abstract The complex interactions between acoustics and unsteady combustion is the driving energy mechanism for transmuting self-excited pressure and velocity oscillations in combustion systems. These oscillations, known as thermoacoustic instabilities, can have adverse effects on system performance.
