Hydrogen can play a key role in the gradual transition towards a full decarbonization of the combustion sector, e.g., in power generation. Despite the advantages related to the use of this carbon-free fuel, there are still several challenging technical ...

Vorticity contours in a three‐dimensional bluff‐body combustor. Abstract The objective of this study is to develop and apply efficient solution techniques for numerical modeling of combustion with stiff chemical kinetics in practical combustors. The new technique combines a fourth‐order implicit‐explicit (IMEX) additive Runge‐Kutta scheme (ARK) with ...

Abstract Predictive functional control (PFC) is a straightforward and cheap model‐based technique for systematic control of well‐damped open‐loop processes. Nevertheless, its oversimplified design characteristics are often the cause of diminished efficacy in more challenging applications; processes involving lightly damped and/or unstable dynamics have

Experimental Investigation on Self-Excited Thermoacoustic Instability in a Rijke Tube
The experimental investigations into the thermoacoustic instability in a Rijke tube are presented. In order to capture the dynamics of the temperature, a single-ended tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technique was developed, with a ...

This work introduces a method to detect and optimize the flame front boundary. A high‐speed camera was employed to continuously capture the flame images. By setting appropriate intensity thresholds, the impact noise can be eliminated from the image and the flame front boundary can be determined.

The complex bursting oscillation and bifurcation mechanisms in coupling systems of different scales have been a hot spot domestically and overseas. In this paper, we analyze the bursting oscillation of a generalized Duffing–Van der Pol system with periodic excitation.

On the mechanism by which nose bluntness suppresses second-mode instability
: A physical mechanism by which nose bluntness suppresses second-mode instability is proposed. Considered are 7 degree half-angle straight cones with nose bluntness radii of 0.15 mm, 3.556 mm, 5 mm, 9.525 mm, 12.7 mm and 25.4 mm at tunnel conditions ...

Acoustic Triggering of Combustion Instability in a Swirling Flame: An Experimental Study
Combustion instability is a common thermoacoustic coupling problem in combustion systems, and the pressure oscillations generated inevitably damage the combustion system. Studying the mechanism of combustion instability, especially the triggering problem

Accounting for convective effects in zero-Mach-number thermoacoustic models [PDF]
This paper presents a methodology to account for some mean-flow effects on thermo-acoustic instabilities when using the zero-Mach-number assumption. It is shown that when a computational domain is represented under the M=0 assumption, a nonzero-Mach ...
