An Experimental PIV/POD Study on the Sequentially Coupled Flow Field of Swirl and Multiple Jets

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The stepwise flow reconstruction induced by sequential coupling of swirl, primary jets, and dilution jets was experimentally investigated in a model combustor using high‐speed PIV and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). Three nonreacting configurations were compared: pure swirl, swirl plus primary jets, and swirl with both primary and dilution jets.

On the mechanism of open-loop control of thermoacoustic instability in a laminar premixed combustor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We identify mechanisms through which open-loop control of thermoacoustic instability is achieved in a laminar combustor and characterize them using synchronization theory.

Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) of a Turbulent Premixed Flame Stabilized on a Bluff Body

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 25, Issue 2, June 2025.
ABSTRACT As the demand for net‐zero emissions intensifies, low‐emission fuels (LEFs) are increasingly explored for their potential to reduce pollutants in combustion systems. The present study investigates the flame dynamics and pollutant emissions (CO and NOx) of different LEFs using detached eddy simulations (DES), a method that offers better ...

A Review on Combustion Instability of Hydrogen-Enriched Marine Gas Turbines

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Hydrogen is widely regarded as a promising carbon-free alternative fuel. However, the development of low-emission marine gas turbine combustion systems has been hindered by the associated risks of combustion instability, also termed as thermoacoustic ...

Study of burner geometry effects on non-premixed flame response under acoustic excitation

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2019
The study of the flame under the acoustic excitation contributes to the study of flame self-excited thermoacoustic instability. Although non-premixed combustion is widely used in industry, research on its combustion instability characteristics is ...

Adaptive Vibration Control of the Moving Cage in the 4 ×$\times$ 4 Hyperbolic PDE‐ODE Model of the Dual‐Cable Mining Elevator

open access: yesIET Control Theory &Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper proposes an observer‐based adaptive output‐feedback boundary control to stabilize the vibrations of the moving cage of a dual‐cable mining elevator. This system is comprised of two mechanically jointed winding drums that drive the two cables through the floating sheaves to lift the cage.

On the emergence of critical regions at the onset of thermoacoustic instability in a turbulent combustor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We use complex network theory to investigate the dynamical transition from stable operation to thermoacoustic instability via intermittency in a turbulent combustor with a bluff body stabilized flame.

Coupled interaction between acoustics and unsteady flame dynamics during the transition to thermoacoustic instability in a multi-element rocket combustor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Rocket engine combustors are prone to transverse instabilities that are characterized by large amplitude high frequency oscillations in the acoustic pressure and the heat release rate.
