Energy Harvesting with Piezoelectric Element Using Vibroacoustic Coupling Phenomenon

open access: yesAdvances in Acoustics and Vibration, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
This paper describes the vibroacoustic coupling between the structural vibrations and internal sound fields of thin structures. In this study, a cylindrical structure with thin end plates is subjected to the harmonic point force at one end plate or both end plates, and a natural frequency of the end plates is selected as the forcing frequency.

Friction Factor Correlation for Regenerator Working in a Travelling-Wave Thermoacoustic System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Regenerator is a porous solid structure which is important in the travelling-wave thermoacoustic system. It provides the necessary contact surface and thermal capacity for the working gas to undergo a thermodynamic cycle under acoustic oscillatory flow ...

Energy and Efficiency Evaluation of Feedback Branch Design in Thermoacoustic Stirling-Like Engines

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Stirling-like thermoacoustic generators are external combustion engines that provide useful acoustic power in the absence of moving parts with high reliability and respect for the environment.

A hot air driven thermoacoustic-Stirling engine [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Thermal Engineering, 2013
Abstract Significant energy savings can be obtained by implementing a thermally driven heat pump into industrial or domestic applications [1] . Such a thermally driven heat pump uses heat from a high-temperature source to drive the system which upgrades an abundantly available heat source (industrial waste heat, air, water, geothermal).

Thermodynamics Performance Analysis of Solar Stirling Engines

open access: yesInternational Scholarly Research Notices, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
This paper provides numerical simulation and thermodynamic analysis of SOLO 161 Solar Stirling engine. Some imperfect working conditions, pistons′ dead volumes, and work losses are considered in the simulation process. Considering an imperfect regeneration, an isothermal model is developed to calculate heat transfer.

High-frequency thermoacoustic-Stirling heat engine demonstration device [PDF]

open access: yesAcoustics Research Letters Online, 2003
A small thermoacoustic-Stirling engine demonstration device that can produce sound in excess of 100 dB at 560 Hz has been constructed. The engine consists of a quarter wavelength acoustic resonator with a smaller diameter coaxial regenerator positioned toward the resonator’s closed end, thereby forming an acoustic feedback path around the regenerator ...

The myth of the high-efficiency external-combustion Stirling engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The reported discrepancy between theory and experiment for external combustion Stirling engines is explained by the addition of thermal resistance of the combustion gasses to the standard Carnot model. In these cases, the Stirling engine ideal efficiency

Low-Concentration Solar-Power Systems Based on Organic Rankine Cycles for Distributed-Scale Applications: Overview and Further Developments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper is concerned with the emergence and development of low-to-medium-grade thermal-energy-conversion systems for distributed power generation based on thermo- dynamic vapor-phase heat-engine cycles undergone by organic working uids, namely ...

Heat transfer processes in parallel-plate heat exchangers of thermoacoustic devices - Numerical and experimental approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This paper addresses the issues of heat transfer in oscillatory flow conditions, which are typically found in thermoacoustic devices. The analysis presented concerns processes taking place in the individual "channels" of the parallel-plate heat ...

A low-cost electricity generator for rural areas using a travelling-wave looped-tube thermoacoustic engine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This article describes the construction and preliminary testing of a pre-prototype thermoacoustic electricity generator to test the concept of a low-cost device for application in remote or rural areas of developing countries.
