Experimental study and analysis of a thermoacoustically driven thermoacoustic refrigerator

Sādhanā, 2020
Experimental investigations are performed on a half-wavelength standing wave type thermoacoustically driven thermoacoustic refrigerator also known as TADTAR. Present TADTAR device conceived to be a quarter wavelength standing wave type thermoacoustic engine (TAE) coupled to a quarter wavelength standing wave thermoacoustic refrigerator (TAR).

rf testbed for thermoacoustic tomography

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2009
Thermoacoustic signal excitation is a function of intrinsic tissue properties and illuminating electric field. De-ionized (DI) water is a preferred acoustic coupling medium for thermoacoustics because acoustic and electromagnetic waves propagate in DI water with very little loss. We have designed a water-filled testbed propagating a controlled electric

The power of thermoacoustics

Physics World, 1988
Thermoacoustic phenomena, involving the generation of sound by fluctuating heat addition have been studied for over two centuries. They are most familiar in the form of such laboratory devices as the Sondhaus tube and the Rijke tube and in the destructive instabilities that can occur in combustion systems. Now, Albert Migliori and Greg Swift at the Los

Thermoacoustic engines

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
Thermoacoustic engines, or acoustic heat engines, are energy-conversion devices that achieve simplicity and concomitant reliability by use of acoustic technology. Their efficiency can be a substantial fraction of Carnot’s efficiency. In thermoacoustic prime movers, heat flow from a high-temperature source to a low-temperature sink generates acoustic ...

Experimental investigation of an adjustable thermoacoustically-driven thermoacoustic refrigerator

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2018
Abstract An experimental investigation is conducted on a new adjustable thermoacoustically-driven thermoacoustic refrigerator (TADTAR). This refrigerator comprises of a thermoacoustic engine which drives a thermoacoustic refrigerator. This study aims to demonstrate the possibility to alter the TADTAR performance through the adjustment of specific ...

Numerical optimization of a novel thermoacoustically driven thermoacoustic refrigerator

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1997
Previous modeling work on a novel heat-driven refrigerator has generated overall COP numbers in the range of 0.45 using pure helium gas. The modeled conditions are for commercial or air-conditioning cooling temperatures, with a hot drive temperature of 400 °C.
