Effect of Intrinsic Carbon in Hot Briquetted Iron on Melting and Refining Efficiency under Electric Arc Furnace Conditions for Sustainable Steelmaking with Active Use of H2‐Reduced Iron

open access: yessteel research international, Volume 97, Issue 8, Page 4126-4137, August 2026.
The melting behavior of hot briquetted iron (HBI) is observed and compared with FactSage computing simulation. When using HBI in an electric arc furnace process, a proper design of intrinsic carbon content in HBI, charging ratio of HBI, and addition of lime are proposed to be essential to control the slag volume, maintain slag basicity, and mitigate ...

Thermochemical Controls on the X, 410, and 660 Discontinuities in the Central Mediterranean

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract The mantle beneath the Central Mediterranean is thermally and compositionally heterogeneous, as indicated by fragmented and locally stagnant slabs in tomographic images and HIMU‐like anorogenic magmatism. Mantle discontinuities are sensitive to both temperature and composition, and thus provide a way to quantify these heterogeneities.

Impact of Heterogeneous Mantle Viscosity on the Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Correction for GRACE(‐FO): Implications for Surface Mass Trends

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Accurate interpretation of time‐variable gravity from GRACE (‐FO) requires correction for glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA), which has a gravitational signal similar in magnitude to that of contemporary hydrological and cryospheric mass change.

Experimental Constraints on the Formation of Niningerite and Oldhamite Under Highly Reducing Conditions: Implications for Sulfide Formation in EH3 Chondrites

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Enstatite chondrites record highly reducing conditions in the early solar nebula, yet the origin of their abundant sulfides remains unclear. Niningerite (MgS) and oldhamite (CaS) are ubiquitous in EH3 enstatite chondrites and distinguish them from other chondrite groups.

Moderate‐Temperature Hydrothermal Treatment Removes Detectable DNA and Antibiotic Resistance Genes From Municipal Sludge While Preserving Resource Value

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 484-494, August 2026.
This graphical abstract shows the overall study design where dewatered wastewater sludge samples were collected and subjected to a range of HT temperatures. Measurement of nucleic acid concentration and antibiotic resistance gene profiles across temperatures showed that HT at moderate temperatures offers sustainable, scalable sludge sanitation and ARG ...
