Potential contribution of biomass gasification‐based technology in energy transition: a technical review coupled with bibliometric studies

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Biomass gasification technology has been extensively researched around the world; however, there is a need to evaluate the current research landscape and evolutionary direction of research in the broader context of energy transition. A systematic bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science database was performed for articles that fall within ...

Chlorella vulgaris biorefineries: sustainable biofuels and high‐value carbon capture

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Global reliance on fossil fuels has created urgent economic and environmental challenges, yet large‐scale use of algal biomass remains limited by production costs. Industrial scaling is constrained by inefficient harvesting and the technical challenges of processing recalcitrant cell walls.

Comparative field‐scale assessment of TLUD and Kon‐Tiki biochar systems: agronomic performance and net CO2e‐based techno‐economics

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Post‐harvest agricultural residues in Latin America are commonly underutilized, leading to greenhouse gas emissions and lost opportunities for bio‐based value creation. This study tests the hypothesis that decentralized, farmer‐scale pyrolysis technologies can deliver comparable agronomic benefits while exhibiting distinct techno‐economic and ...

Integrating agro‐residue valorization and clean hydrogen production: coconut fiber‐based catalysts for NaBH4 hydrolysis

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract A novel phosphoric acid‐treated green coconut fiber (GCF‐C) was developed as a catalyst for hydrogen production from the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Characterization techniques confirmed structural modifications, including X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray fluorescence, Fourier transform infrared, and ...

Constructal design of thermochemical energy storage

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2019
This paper documents an analytical and numerical study of thermochemical energy storage in an open reactor. The analysis of the pressure losses and temperature distributions allows to predict what the geometrical features of the reactor should be. A numerical model simulating the thermochemical process is then presented and validated.

Thermochemical energy storage for a lunar base [PDF]

open access: yes
A thermochemical solar energy storage concept involving the reversible reaction CaO + H2O yields Ca(OH)2 is proposed as a power system element for a lunar base. The operation and components of such a system are described. The CaO/H2O system is capable of

Investigation of electrorefining of metallic alloy fuel onto solid Al cathodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This work concerned the electrorefining of UZr and UPuZr alloys on a solid aluminium cathode, in the LiCl-KCl eutectic melt containing U3+, Pu3+, Np3+, Zr2+ or Zr 4+, Am3+, Nd3+, Y3+, Ce3+ and Gd3+ chlorides. During constant current electrolyses, the use

Simulating competition in the US bioeconomy to produce hard‐to‐electrify transportation fuels using limited biomass resources

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract This study presents a novel bioeconomy optimization framework, BiOpt, designed to address critical questions regarding the strategic use of limited US biomass resources for biofuel production. By integrating detailed techno‐economic analyses, life cycle assessments, and resource assessment data, BiOpt optimizes resource distributions across ...

Vacuum-UV negative photoion spectroscopy of CH3F, CH3Cl and CH3Br [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Using tunable vacuum-UV radiation from a synchrotron, negative ions are detected by quadrupolar mass spectrometry following photoexcitation of three gaseous halogenated methanes CH\(_3\)X (X = F,Cl,Br).
