Thermodynamic potentials and thermodynamic relations in nonextensive thermodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2011
The generalized Gibbs free energy and enthalpy is derived in the framework of nonextensive thermodynamics by using the so-called physical temperature and the physical pressure. Some thermodynamical relations are studied by considering the difference between the physical temperature and the inverse of Lagrange multiplier.

Thermodynamics Far from the Thermodynamic Limit [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2017
Understanding how small systems exchange energy with a heat bath is important to describe how their unique properties can be affected by the environment. In this contribution, we apply Landsberg's theory of temperature-dependent energy levels to describe the progressive thermalization of small systems as their spectrum is perturbed by a heat bath.

Analytical Thermodynamics

open access: yesJournal of Elasticity, 2023
This paper proposes a theory that bridges classical analytical mechanics and nonequilibrium thermodynamics. Its intent is to derive the evolution equations of a system from a stationarity principle for a suitably augmented Lagrangian action. This aim is attained for homogeneous systems, described by a finite number of state variables depending on time ...

Multiscale Thermodynamics

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
Multiscale thermodynamics is a theory of the relations among the levels of investigation of complex systems. It includes the classical equilibrium thermodynamics as a special case, but it is applicable to both static and time evolving processes in externally and internally driven macroscopic systems that are far from equilibrium and are investigated at

Enhancing the performance of a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system using ice slurry [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
This article examines the impact of different ice-slurry fractions on the cooling performance of an HVAC system. The findings reveal that increasing the ice percentage in the ice-slurry solution leads to a proportional enhancement in the system’s cooling

Expanded sequence dependence of thermodynamic parameters improves prediction of RNA secondary structure.

open access: yesJournal of Molecular Biology, 1999
An improved dynamic programming algorithm is reported for RNA secondary structure prediction by free energy minimization. Thermodynamic parameters for the stabilities of secondary structure motifs are revised to include expanded sequence dependence as ...

Improper Estimation of Thermodynamic Parameters in Adsorption Studies with Distribution Coefficient K D (q e/C e) or Freundlich Constant (K F): Considerations from the Derivation of Dimensionless Thermodynamic Equilibrium Constant and Suggestions

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2022
Adsorption processes often include three important components: kinetics, isotherm, and thermodynamics. In the study of solid–liquid adsorption, “standard” thermodynamic equilibrium constant K Eq o ; dimensionless) plays an essential role in accurately ...
