Fast thermodynamically constrained flux variability analysis [PDF]

open access: yesBioinformatics, 2013
Abstract Motivation: Flux variability analysis (FVA) is an important tool to further analyse the results obtained by flux balance analysis (FBA) on genome-scale metabolic networks. For many constraint-based models, FVA identifies unboundedness of the optimal flux space.

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Transient backbending behavior in the Ising model with fixed magnetization

open access: yes, 2003
The physical origin of the backbendings in the equations of state of finite but not necessarily small systems is studied in the Ising model with fixed magnetization (IMFM) by means of the topological properties of the observable distributions and the ...

Thermodynamic Analysis of Time Evolving Networks [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2018
The problem of how to represent networks, and from this representation, derive succinct characterizations of network structure and in particular how this structure evolves with time, is of central importance in complex network analysis. This paper tackles the problem by proposing a thermodynamic framework to represent the structure of time-varying ...

Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Thermodynamic consistency of liquid-gas lattice Boltzmann simulations

open access: yes, 2006
Lattice Boltzmann simulations have been very successful in simulating liquid-gas and other multi-phase fluid systems. However, the underlying second order analysis of the equation of motion has long been known to be insufficient to consistently derive ...
