Basics of the NLTE physics

open access: yes, 2014
Basic assumptions of the NLTE approximation in stellar atmospheres are summarized. The assumptions of thermodynamic equilibrium, local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), and non-LTE (NLTE) are compared.

Reversible Oregonator model revisited: Thermodynamic validity

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2011
We have investigated the features of thermodynamic equilibrium state of the reversible Oregonator (RO) model with close system approximation for a plausible stoichiometry, in which there is no overall change in the concentrations of the intermediates ...

Generic stability of dissipative non-relativistic and relativistic fluids

open access: yes, 2008
The linear stability of the homogeneous equilibrium of non-relativistic fluids with mass flux and special relativistic fluids with the absolute value of the energy vector as internal energy is investigated.

Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Nonequilibrium Entropy in a Shock

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
In a classic paper, Morduchow and Libby use an analytic solution for the profile of a Navier–Stokes shock to show that the equilibrium thermodynamic entropy has a maximum inside the shock.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES OF WHITE BEAN GRAINS FOR DIFFERENT EQUILIBRIUM WATER CONTENTS

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2021
In drying processes and in the storage of agricultural products, the study of thermodynamic properties is indispensable in the search for solutions to issues of stability and optimization of the conditions of agro-industrial processes.

Symmetry Group and Group Representations Associated to the Thermodynamic Covariance Principle (TCP)

open access: yes, 2016
We describe the Lie group and the group representations associated to the nonlinear Thermodynamic Coordinate Transformations (TCT). The TCT guarantee the validity of the Thermodynamic Covariance Principle (TCP) : {\it The nonlinear closure equations, i.e.
