Synthesis and Surface Thermodynamic Functions of CaMoO4 Nanocakes

open access: yesEntropy, 2015
CaMoO4 nanocakes with uniform size and morphology were prepared on a large scale via a room temperature reverse-microemulsion method. The products were characterized in detail by X-ray powder diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy ...

Characterization of a Recyclate‐Based MgO‐Steel Composite As‐Sintered Inert Anode Candidate After Exposure to Cryolite Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Carbon‐free inert anodes are essential for decarbonizing aluminum electrolysis. This study investigates a recyclate‐based MgO‐316L steel composite anode tested under galvanostatic Hall–Héroult conditions in cryolite at 1000°C. Microstructural analysis reveals selective MgO fluorination, spinel and oxide layer formation, electrolyte infiltration, and ...

Thermodynamic restrictions on constitutive functions for fiber suspensions

open access: yesAtti della Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti : Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali, 2019
The constitutive properties of fiber suspensions are investigated with the methods of thermodynamics. Fiber orientation, orientation change velocity and gradient of orientation are considered as relevant variables for the constitutive functions, and the ...

Two-Phase Thermodynamic Model for Efficient and Accurate Absolute Entropy of Water from Molecular Dynamics Simulations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Presented here is the two-phase thermodynamic (2PT) model for the calculation of energy and entropy of molecular fluids from the trajectory of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. In this method, the density of state (DoS) functions (including the normal

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Interrelated structure of high altitude atmospheric profiles [PDF]

open access: yes
A preliminary development of a mathematical model to compute probabilities of thermodynamic profiles is presented. The model assumes an exponential expression for pressure and utilizes the hydrostatic law and equation of state in the determination of ...

Assessing Altered Coating Adhesion on Plasma‐Deoxidized Surfaces Under Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma pretreatment in modifying silicon and stainless steel surfaces to improve adhesion. Argon‐hydrogen plasma increases surface roughness and improves adhesion strength, whereas pure argon results in smoother surfaces and structural changes.

Investigation of Oxygen‐Free Wetting Behavior of Aluminum on Copper via Molecular Dynamics Simulations and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The wettability of aluminum droplets (Al) on different copper substrates (Cu), where liquid Al spreads on solid Cu surfaces to form a liquid–solid interface, is studied numerically and experimentally. The experimental and numerical results show good agreement in the fast‐spreading regime.
