From RNA to DNA: How Cargo Identity Reprograms Lipid Nanoparticle Architecture and Function

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The evolution of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) spans from RNA‐LNPs, used in mRNA vaccines, to DNA‐LNPs, ideal for gene therapies. Emerging bionano architectures, decorated with DNA and plasma proteins, pave the way for advanced DNA‐based therapies that are more stable, targeted, and customizable.

Thermal Processing Creates Water‐Stable PEDOT:PSS Films for Bioelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 37, Issue 13, April 2, 2025.
Instead of using chemical cross–linkers, it is shown that PEDOT:PSS thin films for bioelectronics become water‐stable after a simple heat treatment. The heat treatment is compatible with a range of rigid and elastomeric substrates and films are stable in vivo for >20 days.

Mixed‐Metal Promotion in a Manganese‐Molybdenum Oxynitride as Catalyst to Integrate C─C and C─N Coupling Reactions for the Direct Synthesis of Acetonitrile from Syngas and Ammonia

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Transition metal oxy/carbo‐nitrides show great promise as catalysts for sustainable processes. A Mn‐Mo mixed‐metal oxynitride attains remarkable performance for the direct synthesis of acetonitrile, an important commodity chemical, via sequential C─N and C─C coupling from syngas (C1) and ammonia (N1) feedstocks.

Metastasis Models: Thermodynamics and Complexity

2023
The thermodynamic formalism of nonequilibrium systems together with the theory of complex systems and systems biology offer an appropriate theoretical framework to explain the complexity observed at the macroscopic level in physiological phenomena. In turn, they allow the establishment of an appropriate conceptual and operational framework to address ...

Thermodynamic modelling of hypothermia

European Journal of Emergency Medicine, 1999
Hypothermia is an important threat in trauma patients. The prevention of accidental hypothermia requires a thermal steady state. A simple mathematical model describing thermal steady state is introduced. When applied to trauma patients the model seems sensitive to changes in temperature of intravenous fluids.

Thermodynamic Model for Polyelectrolyte Hydrogels

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014
The composition and swelling behavior of hydrogels may be dramatically influenced by external stimuli. Polyelectrolyte hydrogels consisting of charged polymers are particularly well-known for a high sensitivity to the presence of ionic species. For a thermodynamic description of such systems, the polyelectrolyte Perturbed-Chain Statistical Association ...

Thermodynamic stability of cosmological models

Physical Review D, 1986
The thermodynamics of homogeneous isotropic universes (kg0, \ensuremath{\Lambda}g0) with conformal scalar radiation is analyzed, in analogy with the thermodynamics of black holes in a cavity, as the mutual equilibrium between two subsystems (quantum thermal bosons and semiclassical conformal metric modes) fluctuating under an energy constraint ...

Thermodynamics and Modeling

2004
In metallurgical and ceramics studies work on data assessment has been in progress for many years (see [70KAU], [87ANS/SUN], [94PEL], [96SEI/ALD]). Helgeson et al. [78HEL/DEL], Berman [88BER], Holland and Powell [90HOL/ POW], Gottschalk [97GOT], Saxena et al. [93SAX/CHA] created geochemical databases.

Thermodynamic Modeling of Asphaltene Aggregation

Langmuir, 2004
A new molecular thermodynamic model for the description of the aggregation behavior of asphaltenes in different solvents is presented. This new model is relatively simple and strictly predictive and does not use any experimental information from asphaltene solutions.
