Extensive quantities in thermodynamics
European Journal of Physics, 2014A literature survey shows little consistency in the definitions of the term ‘extensive quantity’ (a.k.a. extensive property) as used in thermodynamics. A majority assumes that extensive quantities are those that are proportional to mass. Taking the mathematical meaning of proportional and taking the ‘mass’ to be that of the system or subsystem, it is ...

The influence of isotopomers on calculated thermodynamics quantities
Molecular Physics, 2003The effects of using the naturally occurring mixture of isotopomers for calculating thermo-dynamic contributions, rather than using only the compound with the most common isotopes, is examined. The effects are small, even for challenging systems like polyhalogenated compounds.

Basic Thermodynamic Quantities
1996Abstract The purpose of this chapter is to present a simple treatment of some of the basic thermodynamic concepts involved in plant physiology, and especially those relating to water potential and its measurement. The concepts will be briefly applied to plant water potential and to water potential measurement techniques.

Relativistic transformations of thermodynamic quantities
Foundations of Physics, 1977A unique solution is proposed to the problem of how thermodynamic processes between thermodynamic systems at relative rest “appear” to a moving observer. Assuming only transformations for entropy, pressure, and volume and the invariance of the “fundamental thermodynamic equation,” one can derive transformations for (thermodynamic) energy and ...

Lorentz Transformation of Thermodynamic Quantities
American Journal of Physics, 1970In this paper we review the recent controversy concerning relativistic thermodynamics. The diversity of viewpoints can be attributed to the numerous ways in which thermodynamic quantities are defined. The advantages of each approach are discussed.

Nonlinear relaxation of thermodynamic quantities
Soviet Physics Journal, 1980Under the assumption of local equilibrium, a relaxation equation is obtained for macroscopic quantities, this generalizing the linear relations of nonequilibrium thermodynamics to the nonequilibrium case.

Statistical properties of thermodynamic quantities for cyclodextrin complex formation
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2000Literature values of DeltaG degrees (change in Gibbs free energy), DeltaH degrees (change in enthalpy), and TDeltaS degrees (temperature times change in entropy) for 1:1 complex formation by alpha-, beta-, and gamma-cyclodextrins constitute normally distributed populations with the following statistical parameters (all energy quantities in kcal mol(-1);

Measurements and information for thermodynamic quantities
Journal of Statistical Physics, 1974The relation between information and entropy for measurements of thermo-dynamic parameters is considered. The reduction in entropy that an observer can obtain in a system described by a fluctuating thermodynamic parameter is shown to be smaller than the information possessed by the observer.

The influence of spin on thermodynamical quantities
Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 2007We use the brick-wall method to investigate thermodynamical quantities around a static Gibbons-Maeda dilaton black hole and show that each of these quantities contains an additional spin-dependent term and that the usual result that the entropy density, energy density, and pressure take the same forms as in flat spacetime holds only for the leading ...
