Enhancing the Age‐Hardening Response of Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion WE43 Alloy through Microstructural Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser powder‐bed fusion (L‐PBF) can produce dense WE43 magnesium alloy parts, but their mechanical properties are limited by a nonhomogeneous microstructure. This study investigates the effects of varying direct aging (T5) and artificial age‐hardening (T6) conditions on microstructure and strength. Optimized T6 treatment significantly improves strength

Entropy scaling for diffusion coefficients in fluid mixtures

open access: yesNature Communications
Entropy scaling is a powerful technique that has been used for predicting transport properties of pure components over a wide range of states. However, modeling mixture diffusion coefficients by entropy scaling is an unresolved task. We tackle this issue

Two-scale mathematics and fractional calculus for thermodynamics

open access: yesThermal Science, 2019
A three dimensional problem can be approximated by either a two-dimensional or one-dimensional case, but some information will be lost. To reveal the lost information due to the lower dimensional approach, two-scale mathematics is needed.

Violation of First Law of Thermodynamics in f(R,T) Gravity

open access: yes, 2012
In this Letter, we derived the first law of thermodynamics using the method proposed by Wald. Treating the entropy as Noether charge and comparing with the usual first law of thermodynamics, we obtained the expression of entropy explicitly which contains

Investigation of Solid‐Solution Phase Formation in AlCuNiSi Medium Entropy Alloys and its Effect on Microstructural, Thermal, and Microhardness Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study focuses on synthesizing equiatomic AlCuNiSi medium‐entropy alloys using mechanical alloying for advanced industrial applications. Continuous milling leads to grain refinement and the formation of stable BCC/FCC solid‐solution phases, resulting in enhanced mechanical properties. A unique Si‐rich solid‐solution phase is observed, which did not

Gravity as a thermodynamic phenomenon [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The analogy between the laws of black hole mechanics and the laws of thermodynamics led Bekenstein and Hawking to argue that black holes should be considered as real thermodynamic systems that are characterised by entropy and temperature. Black hole thermodynamics indicates a deeper connection between thermodynamics and gravity.

Higher Spin Cosmology

open access: yes, 2014
We construct cosmological solutions of higher spin gravity in 2+1 dimensional de Sitter space. We show that a consistent thermodynamics can be obtained for their horizons by demanding appropriate holonomy conditions.

Profilometry‐Based Indentation Plastometry Testing of Tungsten at High Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Profilometry‐based indentation plastometry (PIP) allows extraction of stress‐strain curves from indent profiles. Tungsten is of industrial interest but is brittle at room temperature. It does plastically deform at higher temperatures. Excellent agreement is obtained between the two techniques in this regime, but PIP also gives plasticity ...

Constant mixing temperature test of a fin-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Thermal energy accumulation is one of the ways how to optimize heat production processes and how to balance the supply and demand of heat in distribution systems. This article presents a design of a fin-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES),

The dynamics of thermodynamics

open access: yesPhysica D: Nonlinear Phenomena, 1998
Thermodynamic relations are derived from first principles of mechanics for non-equilibrium processes. Since the key role herein is played by the law of increase of entropy, the latter is analyzed at first. It is shown that its derivation for isolated systems does not allow one to say too much about thermodynamic properties in non-equilibrium conditions.
