Thermodynamics of micellization of alkylsulphinylalkanols

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1966
The thermodynamics of micellization of a new series of non-ionic surface-active agents, the alkylsulphinylalkanols (RSO(CH2)nOH), has been examined. It has been shown that the behaviour of methylene groups in close proximity to the hydrophilic groups is very different from those further removed.

Thermodynamics of Micellization from Heat‐Capacity Measurements

ChemPhysChem, 2014
AbstractDifferential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the most important technique for studying the thermodynamics of structural transitions of biological macromolecules, is seldom used in quantitative thermodynamic studies of surfactant micellization/demicellization.

Thermodynamics of Micellization of Multiheaded Single-Chain Cationic Surfactants

Langmuir, 2004
The energetics of micelle formation of three single-chain cationic surfactants bearing single (h = 1), double (h = 2), and triple (h = 3) trimethylammonium [(+)N(CH(3))(3)] headgroups have been investigated by microcalorimetry. The results were compared with the microcalorimetric data obtained from well-known cationic surfactant, cetyl ...

Thermodynamics of Micellization of Alkyldimethylbenzylammonium Chlorides in Aqueous Solutions

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2002
Specific conductivities of alkyldimethylbenzylammonium chlorides (alkyl=decyl-, dodecyl-, tetradecyl-, and hexadecyl-) in aqueous solutions were measured as a function of molality and temperature. Critical micelle molalities (cmc) and degrees of ionization of the micelles, beta, were estimated from the dependence of the specific conductivity on ...

Effect of urea on thermodynamics of micellization

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1967
The thermodynamic parameters of micellization for two series of surface-active agents have been derived from surface tension and calorimetric measurements in water and urea solutions. Octyl-sulphinylalkanols were used to study the effect of urea on the solvent reorientation associated with the hydrophilic group and alkyltrimethylammonium alkyl ...

Thermodynamics of Micellization of Ionized Surfactants: The Equivalence of Enthalpies of Micellization from Calorimetry and the Variation of Critical Micelle Points with Temperature as Exemplified for Aqueous Solutions of an Aliphatic Cationic Surfactant.

Langmuir, 2021
There is considerable confusion on experimental and thermodynamic aspects of the formation of ionized surfactant micelles. Recent claims that the van't Hoff and calorimetric enthalpies of micellization of ionized surfactants represent different aspects ...
