Thermoeconomic optimization of a refrigeration plant
International Journal of Refrigeration, 1998Abstract In this paper, thermoeconomic theory is applied to the economic optimization of a conventional refrigeration plant, aimed at minimizing its overall operation and amortization cost. Thermal systems cannot always be optimized by means of mathematical or numerical techniques, because a complete model of the plant is not always available, and ...

Thermoeconomic isolation and essergy analysis
Energy, 1980Abstract Any thermal system component may be regarded as “thermoeconomically isolated” from other system compondnts when its economic interactions are completely described by a set of single numerical values of stable Lagrange multipliers for each interaction.

The Application of Game Theory to Thermoeconomics
Volume 4: Energy Systems Analysis, Thermodynamics and Sustainability; Combustion Science and Engineering; Nanoengineering for Energy, Parts A and B, 2011Last year, we proposed a relationship between physical entropy, S and abstract, yet quantifiable information, I, where entropy has units of J K−1 and information has units of bits (Layton, 2010). Therein, we proposed the relation ΔS = αI, where ΔS = Smax – Smin, with Smax representing the maximum entropy generation rate of a given system, Smin ...

Thermodynamics and Thermoeconomics
2010Raising the efficiency of an energy system is within the domain of thermodynamics. Raising the efficiency cost-effectively (Thermoeconomics) is a multi-disciplinary problem in which thermodynamics interfaces other disciplines of knowledge which in this particular case are design, manufacture and economics.

A Decomposition Strategy for Thermoeconomic Optimization
Journal of Energy Resources Technology, 1989An optimal thermal design of a considered system configuration is conveniently decided when the system is modeled as made up of one thermodynamic subsystem and of the essential number of design subsystems. The thermodynamic subsystem decides the performance of the components and the design subsystems decide their best matching geometry and costs.

Thermoeconomic Study of CCGT Plants
2007This work presents a thermo-economic study of combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facilities based on a flexible genetic algorithm search technique. The results here presented will maximize the cash flow by pointing out the correct parameter values for plant design when the turbines have already been chosen among the existing commercial options.

Thermoeconomic optimization of an energy hub
2014The aim of this paper is to illustrate the operation of a real energy hub that can satisfy both thermal and electrical demands of a generic user. In particular, a specific case study developed around the smart grid of the University Campus of Savona (Italy), which just completed in 2014, is analysed.
