Thermoelectric Cooling Through Thermoelectric Materials

2010
Thermoelectric (TE) cooling has been used for thermal management of high-power-dissipating electrical components, with silent, compact, reliable, and durable characteristics and being modulated to maintain a fixed temperature. However, TE coolers currently in use have a coefficient of performance (COP) of only about 0.5.

Thermoelectrics of Nanowires

Chemical Reviews, 2019
The field of thermoelectric research has undergone a renaissance and boom in the past two and a half decades, largely fueled by the prospect of engineering electronic and phononic properties in nanostructures, among which semiconductor nanowires (NWs) have served both as an important platform to investigate fundamental thermoelectric transport ...

Improved Thermoelectric Osmometer

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1971
The original osmometer described by Goyan and Johnson was improved, resulting in a 10-fold increase in sensitivity and greater convenience in use. A concentration change of 0.001 molal is easily detected in aqueous solutions; however, the instrument may be used without modification for nonaqueous solvents.

Thermoelectricity Enhanced Electrocatalysis

Nano Letters, 2017
We show that thermoelectric materials can function as electrocatalysts and use thermoelectric voltage generated to initiate and boost electrocatalytic reactions. The electrocatalytic activity is promoted by the use of nanostructured thermoelectric materials in a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) by the thermoelectricity generated from induced ...

Thermoelectric freeze‐drying

Journal of Microscopy, 1974
SUMMARYFreeze‐drying is a useful way to maintain the three‐dimensional morphology of biological materials for electron microscopy. The process is achieved simply by utilizing a commercially available thermoelectric unit within a standard vacuum evaporator.

Thermoelectricity

2004
When two different metals are connected together in a circuit and the two junctions are held at different temperatures, five physical phenomena take place simultaneously. Thermal and electric currents flow in the circuit, giving rise to Joule heating and thermal conduction.

Interstitials in Thermoelectrics

Advanced Materials
AbstractDefect structure is pivotal in advancing thermoelectric performance with interstitials being widely recognized for their remarkable roles in optimizing both phonon and electron transport properties. Diverse interstitial atoms are identified in previous works according to their distinct roles and can be classified into rattling interstitial ...
