The influence of external magnetic fields on crack contrast in magnetic steel detected by induction thermography

open access: yes, 2022
S.237-247Magnetic materials were investigated by induction thermography at induction frequencies of 80 - 300 kHz. The influence of an external magnetic field on the thermal crack contrast was studied.

Improvement of the contrast-to-noise ratio in pulse-phase thermography by frequency dependent windowing

open access: yes, 2022
Paper QIRT-2020-016, 10 S.Two modified algorithms for pulsed phase thermography were defined. The principle is to mask out parts of the thermal signal that only add noise but no significant information.

Defect Shape Detection and Defect Reconstruction in Active Thermography by means of Two-Dimensional Convolutional Neural Network as well as Spatiotemporal Convolutional LSTM Network

open access: yes, 2022
126144A neural network (NN) for semantic segmentation (U-Net) was used for the detection of crack-type defects from thermography sequences. For this task, data sequences of forged steel parts were acquired through induction thermography and the ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
