EVA-Layered Double Hydroxide (Nano)Composites: Mechanism of Fire Retardancy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Composites of ethyleneevinyl acetate copolymer with two different layered double hydroxides have been obtained by melt blending and these have been characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis ...

Highly Sensitive Electrochemical Biosensor Based on Hairy Particles with Controllable High Enzyme Loading and Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
For the first time, a highly sensitive electrochemical biosensor based on SiO2‐based hairy particles with a grafted PDMAEMA polymer brush containing a quantifiable and large amount of immobilized Laccase is reported. The fabricated biosensor exhibits a sensitivity of 0.14 A·m⁻¹, a limit of detection (LOD) of 0.1 µm, and a detection range of 0.3–750 µm,

Characteristic Time Analysis of Biomass Torrefaction Phenomena - Application to Thermogravimetric Analysis Device

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
Torrefaction is a promising mild thermal treatment for biomass waste, typically between 473 and 573 K during a few tens of minutes in a default-oxygen atmosphere. The product is a solid, with properties close to coal.

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by

Determination of the relative concentrations of rare earth ions by x-ray absorption spectroscopy: Application to terbium mixed oxides [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
A method, based on X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in the range 0.8–1.5 keV, to determine the relative amounts of rare earth ions in different valencies is explained and tested for the case of terbium mixed oxides.

Thermogravimetric analysis of vinylacetate‐vinylbutyrate copolymers [PDF]

open access: yesDie Angewandte Makromolekulare Chemie, 1976
AbstractThe composition of copolymers of vinylacetate (VAc) and vinylbutyrate (VB) can be determined rapidly and satisfactorily by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), in spite of the fact that both acetic and butyric acid are abstracted simultaneously and incompletely from their respective segments.

3D‐Printed Sulfur‐Derived Polymers With Controlled Architectures for Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rheology‐guided formulation design for direct ink writing enables the fabrication of 3D sulfur copolymer cathodes with controlled architectures for lithium‐sulfur batteries. The printed electrodes exhibit multiscale porosity and high sulfur utilization, delivering enhanced electrochemical performance compared to conventional cast electrodes.

A Non-isothermal Thermogravimetric Kinetic Analysis of Malaysian Sewage Sludge

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
Dewatered sewage sludge is one of the largest contributors of waste material in Malaysia and it indirectly elevates local environmental problems. Previous studies have indicated sewage sludge as a potential alternative fuel based on its higher heating ...

Crown Ether-Modified Clays and their Polystyrene Nanocomposites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Crown ether-modified clays were obtained by the combination of sodium and potassium clays with crown ethers and cryptands. Polystyrene nanocomposites were prepared by bulk polymerization in the presence of these clays.
