Survey of cryogenic processes, periglacial forms and permafrost conditions in South America [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Este inventário fornece informações sobre o estado da arte e os avanços recentes da Geocriologia nos países da América do Sul onde ocorre permafrost ou congelamento sazonal dos solos e onde este campo de pesquisa tem interesse científico.

Eastern Beringia and beyond: Late Wisconsinan and Holocene landscape dynamics along the Yukon Coastal Plain, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Terrestrial permafrost archives along the Yukon Coastal Plain (northwest Canada) have recorded landscape development and environmental change since the Late Wisconsinan at the interface of unglaciated Beringia (i.e.

Thermokarst lakes expand and drain laterally as permafrost degrades [PDF]

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 2011
In Arctic regions, thermokarst lakes form and expand from thawing permafrost or melting of ice. However, as lakes expand they have a tendency to drain laterally. Jones et al. surveyed the extent of thermokarst lakes in the continuous permafrost zone in the Cape Espenberg lowland of northwestern Alaska's Seward Peninsula using high‐resolution remote ...

A synthesis of thermokarst lake water balance in high-latitude regions of North America from isotope tracers

open access: yesArctic Science, 2017
Numerous studies utilizing remote sensing imagery and other methods have documented that thermokarst lakes are undergoing varied hydrological transitions in response to recent climate changes, from surface area expansion to drainage and evaporative ...

Stochastic modelling of thermokarst lakes: size distributions and dynamic regimes [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
Thermokarst lakes are among the most common and dynamic landscape features in ice-rich lowland permafrost regions. They influence carbon, water and energy fluxes between atmosphere and land surface, and are an important component of Arctic lowland ...

Permafrost degradation under expanding thermokarst lakes, Yukon, Canada

open access: yes, 2014
This poster presents patterns of permafrost degradation under lakes with eroding shorelines in Old Crow Flats, Northern Yukon. Old Crow Flats is an arctic peatland in the continuous permafrost zone. Two shorelines with contrasting rates of recession, bank morphology, and vegetation cover were studied in the field.

Thermokarst lakes of Western Siberia: a complex biogeochemical multidisciplinary approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Studies, 2014
Western Siberia’s thermokarst lakes are highly dynamic hydrochemical systems that receive chemical elements from the surrounding peat soil and exchange greenhouse gases with the atmosphere, delivering dissolved carbon and metals to adjacent hydrological systems.
