What's new? The 1986 Chernobyl accident led to widespread radioactive contamination across parts of Europe, with elevated childhood leukaemia rates observed in heavily affected areas of Ukraine. Data on long‐term haematological and other non‐thyroid cancer risk in the general population in heavily contaminated regions, however, remain limited.

Loess in Aotearoa New Zealand (ANZ) has been studied since its first documented recognition (on Banks Peninsula) in 1878 by Julius von Haast. A decade later, John Hardcastle revealed that southern ANZ loess was both glacial in origin and contained signals of past climates.

Plant extracts as the source of physiologically active compounds suppressing the development of pathogenic fungi

It is shown that aqueous extracts from bird cherry tree Padus avium L., aspen Populus tremula L., and celandine Chelidoniummajus L., effectivily suppress the germination of Puccinia triticina Eriks uredospores.

Battery‐Free UV‐Dose Detector via Defect‐Engineered Ca2SnO4:RE (RE = Sm3+, Pr3+) Oxide Phosphors

Sm3+/Pr3+‐doped Ca2SnO4 (CSO:RE) phosphors exhibit orange/deep‐red 4f–4 f emissions and defect‐related luminescence. LPL, TL, and OSL measurements reveal thermally/optically addressable traps, with OSL signals retained after 504 h dark storage.
