The hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination behaviour of Nd-Fe-B alloys has been studied by in-situ powder neutron diffraction and thermomagnetic measurements performed under hydrogen gas. Decomposition temperatures have been determined in order to obtain partial or complete reactions. Intermediate phases have been observed.

Remote measurement of transient heat flux based on the thermomagnetic effect
Measurement Science and TechnologyAbstract Heat flux is a physical quantity that characterises the strength of heat transfer per unit area. Heat transfer occurs with a temperature difference. Herein, a remote heat flux measurement method based on the thermomagnetic effect is proposed.

A magnetic domain is written at the center of a cross-shaped magneto-optical sample having an area of 5×5 μm2, and the Hall voltage is monitored during the recording process.

Measurement of transient temperature during thermomagnetic writing in MO recording media
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1992Real-time Kerr contrast images produced by a time-resolved microscope were used to derive transient temperature during thermomagnetic (TM) writing. Temperature profiles in magnetooptical films during TM writing were measured, and Curie diameter could be derived.
