Nanostructures in controlled thermonuclear fusion devices

Physics-Uspekhi, 2010
It is shown that the presence of nano-sized and nano-structured erosion products not only affects the operation of thermonuclear devices but also, to a large extent, determines the safety and economy of future thermonuclear reactors. The formation mechanisms and the characteristics and properties of deposited films and nano-sized dust that form in ...

Heavy Isotope Abundances in Mike Thermonuclear Device

Physical Review, 1960
The November 1, 1952 thermonuclear explosion ("Mike") produced all of the uranium isotopes ${\mathrm{U}}^{239}$, ${\mathrm{U}}^{240}$,...${\mathrm{U}}^{255}$ through multiple neutron capture by ${\mathrm{U}}^{238}$. The long-lived products of successive ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ decays from these isotopes were measured mass ...

Local Wall Power Loading Variations in Thermonuclear Fusion Devices

Fusion Technology, 1989
A 2½-dimensional geometric model is presented that allows calculation of power loadings at various points on the first wall of a thermonuclear fusion device.

The basic technical characteristics of the experimental thermonuclear device tokamak-3

Journal of Nuclear Energy. Part C, Plasma Physics, Accelerators, Thermonuclear Research, 1965
A description is given of the experimental thermonuclear device Tokamak-3, designed to investigate a toroidal quasi-stationary discharge in a strong longitudinal magnetic field. The basic parameters of the magnetic field system, the arrangements for feeding in energy and the vacuum system of the machine are given, together with some constructional data

Challenges in the em simulation of large scale thermonuclear fusion devices

2021
This paper discusses the computational challenges involved in the electromagnetic simulation of large scale thermonuclear fusion devices by means of Integral Equation methods. In particular, the drawback of the generation of large and dense matrices is addressed and a possible solution by means of data-sparse formats based on hierarchical matrices is ...

Tritium Problems in a Thermonuclear Fusion Device

Fusion Technology, 1985
Works under way in CEA Saclay on a fusion reactor tritium system are described. Areas covered are large components for the torus vacuum system, fuel clean-up processes, electrolytic cell, atmosphere clean-up and tritium recovery from solid wastes. All these tasks are covered theoretically and experimentally.

MHD-nozzle device as a thermonuclear target in MAGO/MTF concept

12th International Conference on High-Power Particle Beams. BEAMS'98. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX103), 2002
Describes the MAGO-MTF (magnetised target fusion) approach to fusion energy using a MHD-nozzle device as the thermonuclear target. In MAGO-MTF, thermonuclear reaction ignition has two stages: 1) heated magnetized plasma formation; and 2) adiabatic compression of the obtained plasma and the achievement of thermonuclear reaction burning conditions.
