The Plasma-Facing Materials of Tokamak Thermonuclear Reactors: Requirements, Thermal Stabilization, and Tests (a Review)

open access: yesThermal Engineering (English Translation of Teploenergetika), 2021
The results from experimental investigations of chamber internal parts and plasma-facing materials proposed for use in a thermonuclear reactor are reviewed. The thermonuclear reactor internals will experience various heat loads connected with temperature gradients and local exposure dose with the nuclear reaction neutron energy spectrum.

Questions of the corrosion resistance of vanadium alloys as a possible thermonuclear reactor constructional material

Soviet Materials Science, 1988
For the presumed operating conditions of a type INTOR thermonuclear reactor [i] a basic advantage of vanadium is the relatively rapid drop in the induced activity [2] (by about a million times after a 10-yr hold). This property is preserved in alloying of vanadium with titanium, chromium, aluminum, silicon, and carbon but becomes significantly poorer ...

Diagnostic study of interface materials of co-deposition simulating impurity relevant to international thermonuclear experimental reactor by using calibration-free laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

open access: yesSpectrochimica Acta Part B: Atomic Spectroscopy, 2022
The quantitative analysis and depth profiling of a co-deposition simulating the impurity of the international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITER) has been performed by using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). In the depth profile analysis of a co-deposition of Al/W/Mo, the materials were resolved across the interfaces of layers using ...

Influence of hydrogen upon the solubility, in lithium, of the structural materials of the blanket of a thermonuclear reactor

Soviet Atomic Energy, 1990
Models of an association solution, i.e., a regular solution with two sublattices, a quasi-chemical sublattice and a coordination-cluster sublattice, are used to describe the interaction of the components in diluted liquid-metal solutions. The influence of hydrogen upon the solubility of the metals in the liquid lithium was studied in our work, making ...

Prospects of Using In-Containing Semiconductor Materials in Magnetic Field Sensors for Thermonuclear Reactor Magnetic Diagnostics

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013
The work presents the results of experimental investigation into the effect of neutron irradiation on thin-film magnetic field Hall sensors. It is shown that sensors based on InSb/i-GaAs heterostructures are promising for application under radiation conditions in thermonuclear reactor magnetic diagnostics systems.

The impact of materials selection on the design of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER)

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1994
Abstract The design being developed for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) in the Engineering Design Activities (EDA) phase has to assure the achievement of controlled ignition and extended burn, and must provide a demonstration of technologies that are essential to a reactor.
