Comparative evaluation of solar, fission, fusion, and fossil energy resources, part 3 [PDF]

open access: yes
The role of nuclear fission reactors in becoming an important power source in the world is discussed. The supply of fissile nuclear fuel will be severely depleted by the year 2000. With breeder reactors the world supply of uranium could last thousands of

Poisoning Mechanism Map for Metal Hydride Hydrogen Storage Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 43, November 20, 2024.
The poisoning mechanisms of impurity gases on hydrogen storage materials are classified into two basic categories. During hydrogenation, inactive gases cause a minimal blanket effect by physically obstructing H2 diffusion in H2‐impurity mixed gas, while active gases significantly poison materials by chemically limiting H2 absoprtion at interface.

Effect of pulse flows of charged particles on the structure and mechanical properties of metals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate the effect of pulse flows of hydrogen, helium, and hydrogen-helium plasma of a specific power of 20-30 GW/m² on the surface structure and mechanical properties of vanadium, niobium, and Kh16N15M3B and Kh18N10T austenitic stainless ...

Limitations of Hydrogen Detection After 150 Years of Research on Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 26, Issue 19, October 2024.
This article reviews the phenomenon of hydrogen embrittlement in metallurgy, tracing its historical origins and examining experimental limitations in detecting hydrogen at nanoatomic scales. It evaluates theoretical models and proposes that further development of experimental science is needed to either validate or disprove current HE theories ...

An experimental comparison of contributions in collective prevention games and public goods games

open access: yesEconomic Inquiry, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 1598-1617, October 2024.
Abstract In many collective action problems individuals' contributions increase the probability of a collectively favorable event rather than affect the quantity of public goods provided. Such problems, that we refer to as collective prevention games, remain largely unexplored in the literature.

Fusion energy from the Moon for the twenty-first century [PDF]

open access: yes
It is shown in this paper that the D-He-3 fusion fuel cycle is not only credible from a physics standpoint, but that its breakeven and ignition characteristics could be developed on roughly the same time schedule as the DT cycle.

An optimized AC side startup strategy of E‐STATCOM for ITER pulsed power electrical network

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 18, Issue 16, Page 2719-2731, August 2024.
In this article, an energy consumption optimization startup strategy of E‐STATCOM system using supercapacitor energy storage based MMC is proposed. This startup strategy avoids the use of current limiting resistors in supercapacitor energy storage circuits and reduces additional energy loss.

Solar System Processes Underlying Planetary Formation, Geodynamics, and the Georeactor

open access: yes, 2006
Only three processes, operant during the formation of the Solar System, are responsible for the diversity of matter in the Solar System and are directly responsible for planetary internal-structures, including planetocentric nuclear fission reactors, and
