Thermophoresis of Aerosol Particles
Nature, 1962THE velocity of thermophoresis v of small aerosol particles of radius R, much smaller than the free path λ of the surrounding gas molecules, has been calculated by us1 in two ways: (1) as a limiting case of thermodiffusion; (2) by finding the momentum imparted to the particles by impact of molecules the velocity distribution of which is not disturbed ...

Thermophoresis in binary blends
Mechanics of Materials, 2012Abstract Various types of temperature sensitive binary blends are employed in modern technical applications, e.g., polymer solutions in adhesives, lubricants or in coating implementations. In this paper we deduce and thoroughly investigate a model of segregation of such blends in the presence of a locally non-uniform temperature field. Capturing the

Thermophoresis for spherical particles
Journal of Aerosol Science, 2013Abstract Prediction of thermophoretic migration of particles suspended in a fluid is of practical importance for many industrial applications including gas cleaning applications. The design of particle-laden fluid systems requires an estimation of the thermophoretical deposition rate, which depends on the temperature gradient and also on the ...

Thermophoresis of Graphene Plates
Russian Physics Journal, 2014Thermophoresis of graphene plates in an air medium is discussed within the framework of a molecular-kinetic approach. Its rate is found to be independent of the plate area and the aspect ratio of a rectangular graphene. It does depend on the plate orientation in space, which is controlled by the principle of least resistance.

The thermophoresis of solids in gases
Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2005A brief review of existing ideas on the nature of the thermophoresis of solids in gases is given. A method for calculating the rate of thermophoresis of coarse solids is described. A procedure for analysing experimental data and for choosing a high-quality material on the basis of this is proposed.

Thermophoresis of aerosols: a review
Journal of Aerosol Science, 1991Abstract The modern theory of thermophoresis was developed in the linear approximation with respect to small Knudsen numbers, the zero approximation corresponding to the Epst.ein result. To compare experiment. with the theory it requires measuring the dependence of the thermophoresis velocity or the thermophoresis force versus Kn.

Experiments on photophoresis and thermophoresis
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1975Abstract An experimental technique has been developed for the precise measurement of radiometric forces. The results suggest that the photophoretic force due to sunlight on aerosol particles of approximately 0.5μ diameter in the upper atmosphere may be comparable with or larger than the particle weight. The thermophoretic results are in conflict with
