Continuous Natural Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites by Fiber Surface Modification

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
Continuous natural fiber reinforced thermoplastic materials are expected to replace inorganic fiber reinforced thermosetting materials. However, in the process of fabricating the composite, it is difficult to impregnate the thermoplastic resin into ...

Decoupling Dynamics and Crosslink Stability in Supramolecular Hydrogels Using Associative Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
How does reorganization impact the stability of supramolecular hydrogels? In contrast to dissociative crosslink exchange, implementing associative exchange in macroscale DNA hydrogels enables decoupling of reorganization dynamics from thermal and mechanical stability.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

A comprehensive techno-economic and environmental comparison of plasma-treated adhesive-bonded thermoplastic composites

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Joining Processes
Thermoplastic composites are gaining attention for their ability to support a circular economy, shifting away from traditional cost-driven design. Unlike thermoset composites, commonly used in automotive and aerospace sectors, thermoplastic composites ...

Engineering Free Volume within Frontal Ring‐Opening Metathesis Polymerization via Pendant Plasticization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Norbornene‐based copolymers with tunable n‐alkyl pendant length provide control over matrix free volume, enabling elastomeric materials via frontal ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (FROMP). ABSTRACT Frontal ring‐opening metathesis polymerization (FROMP) enables rapid, energy‐efficient access to high‐performance thermosets and thermoplastics, but ...

Warpage of rubber pressed composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The rubber pressing process is applied for the rapid production of thermoplastic composite products. However, rubber pressed products show geometrical distortions, such as warpage, due to process-induced residual stresses.

The influence of toughening-particles in CFRPs on low velocity impact damage resistance performance

open access: yes, 2014
The role of particle-toughening for increasing impact damage resistance in carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites was investigated. Five carbon fibre reinforced systems consisting of four particle-toughened matrices and one system containing ...
