Rubber-Thermoplastic Compositions. Part V. Selecting Polymers for Thermoplastic Vulcanizates

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 1982
Abstract Based on a few characteristics of the pure rubber and plastic components, rubber-plastic combinations can be selected, with a high probability of success, to give thermoplastic vulcanizates (by dynamic vulcanization) of good mechanical integrity and elastic recovery.

Morphology Development in Thermoplastic Vulcanizates (TPV)

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
The mechanisms of fragmentation and dispersion in molten polypropylene (PP) of several pre-crosslinked and plasticized ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) networks were studied. The results highlight the importance of the gel fraction of the pre-crosslinked EPDMs on the quality of the dispersion of such networks.

Thermoplastic Vulcanizates Filled with а Layered Silicate

Key Engineering Materials, 2019
Oil-resistant and thermoformed thermoplastic vulcanizates based on butadiene-nitrile rubber and polypropylene were obtained, containing a layered silicate montmorillonite as a filler. The structural characteristics of composites based on thermoplastic vulcanizates were studied using the methods of fractal analysis.

Thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizates

1999
Thermoplastic dynamic vulcanizates (TDV) belong to a novel family of thermoplastic rubbers. They are blends composed of thermoplastic resins and elastomers in which the fully or partially cured elastomer component is finely dispersed (mean particle size: 1–2 μm) in the thermoplastic matrix.

Oil Distribution in iPP/EPDM Thermoplastic Vulcanizates

Rubber Chemistry and Technology, 2007
Abstract Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) was used to determine the volume fraction of oil-swollen particulate rubber and oil-swollen plastic in thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) produced from iPP and EPDM rubber. Sample preparation and SPM imaging conditions allowed the ratio of the rubber and plastic area imaged for a TPV sample to be equated ...

Thermoplastic Vulcanizates (TPVs)

A typical approach to obtaining high-performance polymer materials is by polymer blending. Thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), prepared via dynamic vulcanization, consist of a high content of crosslinked rubber phase dispersed in a low content yet continuous thermoplastic polymer phase.

Melt fracture and wall slip of thermoplastic vulcanizates

Polymer Engineering & Science, 2020
AbstractThermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs) are blends of polypropylene (PP) (thermoplastic phase) and ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber (rubber phase) in which a high content of rubber EPDM is cross‐linked and dispersed in a thermoplastic matrix (PP) in the presence of oil (lubricant) and filler.

Crosslink densities and phase morphologies in thermoplastic vulcanizates

Polymer, 2004
The degree of EPDM crosslinking during dynamic vulcanization of a PP/ EPDM thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) was modified by varying its phenolic curative content. The rise in TPV viscosity, the drop in its swelling, the change in its NMR MAS lineshape, and the increase in its EPDM domain AFM force modulation hardness verified the increase in EPDM ...

Preparation and characterization of thermoplastic vulcanizate/silica nanocomposites

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2005
AbstractThis article describes the preparation, characterization, and properties of thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV)/silica nanocomposites. The nanocomposites were prepared by the melt blending of TPV and maleic anhydride grafted polypropylene (mPP) into organically modified SiO2 (m‐SiO2), treated with n‐hexadecyl trimethylammonium bromide as a grafting
