We demonstrate herein that corannulene, a bowl‐shaped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, can assemble into larger supramolecular structures in water through a change in the solution temperature. This property is invoked through a simple five‐fold symmetric substitution of the corannulene nucleus with triethylene glycol units.

Thermoresponsive Hydrogels for Cellular Delivery
Therapeutic Delivery, 2012The delivery of living cells into a host body has emerged as a promising approach to treating a variety of different diseases and for tissue repair. However, one of the major obstacles for clinical success is to deliver the cells to the target tissue without losing control of cell fate and function after transplantation.

Backbone-Thermoresponsive Hyperbranched Polyethers
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006A new type of materials, the backbone-thermoresponsive hyperbranched polyether, was successfully synthesized by proton-transfer polymerization of 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether and various triols, and the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) values can be readily adjusted from 19.0 to 40.3 degrees C by changing the hydrophilic/hydrophobic ...

Engineering thermoresponsive polymeric nanoshells
Biomaterials, 2009This study describes a family of hollow nanoscale constructs able to display a large and reversible change in size, within a narrow temperature interval. These thermoresponsive nanostructures are generated by crosslinking functionalized amphiphilic molecules, such as poly(ethylene oxide)-poly(propylene oxide)-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO-PPO-PEO ...

Thermoresponsive Supramolecular Dendronized Polymers
Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2011AbstractCombining the concepts of supramolecular polymers and dendronized polymers provides the opportunity to create bulky polymers with easy structural modification and tunable properties. In the present work, a novel class of side‐chain supramolecular dendronized polymethacrylates is prepared through the host–guest interaction.

New directions in thermoresponsive polymers
Chemical Society Reviews, 2013Interest in thermoresponsive polymers has steadily grown over many decades, and a great deal of work has been dedicated to developing temperature sensitive macromolecules that can be crafted into new smart materials. However, the overwhelming majority of previously reported temperature-responsive polymers are based on poly(N-isopropylacrylamide ...
