Sensing and Filtering Environmental Fluctuations: The Case of Biomolecular Condensates in Plants

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 27, 13 May 2026.
The diversity of plant condensates reflects constraints of sessile organisms to coordinate postembryonic development with environmental adaptation. This review examines how plants employ condensates to integrate temperature, light, redox, and nutrient signals.

Oral thermosensing by murine trigeminal neurons: modulation by capsaicin, menthol, and mustard oil

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2018
When consumed with foods, mint, mustard and chili peppers generate pronounced oral thermosensations. Here we recorded responses in mouse trigeminal ganglion neurons to investigate interactions between thermal sensing and the active ingredients of these ...

SEMI‐1, A Novel Neuronal Selenium‐Binding Protein 1 Homolog Without Methanethiol Oxidase Activity, Modulates Stress Resistance, Lifespan, and Thermotaxis in C. elegans

open access: yesBioFactors, Volume 52, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
SEMI‐1 is a selenium‐binding protein in C. elegans that, different from its paralog, SEMO‐1, and its human ortholog, SELENBP1, has no enzymatic activity as a methanethiol oxidase. It is expressed in AFD and BAG neurons only and affects nematode thermotaxis, stress resistance, and lifespan.

Ligand-Assisted Back Energy Transfer in Luminescent TbIII Complexes for Thermosensing Properties.

open access: yesChemistry, 2018
A luminescent TbIII complex with a hexafluoroacetylacetone (hfa) ligand shows a characteristic back energy transfer (BEnT), which leads to high temperature sensitivity and potential application as a thermosensitive paint.

Functional assessment of temperature-gated ion-channel activity using a real-time PCR machine

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2009
The functional activity of a number of ion channels is highly sensitive to large changes in temperature. Foremost among these are the thermosensing TRP channels which include cold- (TRPM8, TRPA1), warmth- (TRPV3, TRPV4), and heat-sensing (TRPV1, TRPV2 ...

An epigenomic threshold hypothesis for integrating dynamic environmental signals into functional models of developmental polyphenisms

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 11, Page 3050-3060, November 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Interactions between developing embryos and a multitude of environmental factors (e.g. climate, nutrition, social cues, stress and anthropogenic contaminants) underlie adaptive and non‐adaptive developmental plasticity and carry broad implications across ecological ...

Florigen and Florigen‐Like Genes Regulate Temperature‐Responsive Flowering in Tomato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 39, October 20, 2025.
This study uncovers that FLOWERING LOCUS T‐Like 2 (FTL2) and SINGLE‐FLOWER TRUSS (SFT) antagonistically regulate temperature‐responsive flowering in the tomato shoot apical meristem. High temperature induces floral repressor FTL2, which directly inhibits SFT to delay short‐day floral transition, while SFT reciprocally inhibits FTL2 to promote flowering.
