Whistler‐Mode Waves and Associated Electron Distributions in Jupiter's Middle and Outer Magnetosphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 18, 28 September 2025.
Abstract Whistler‐mode waves play a crucial role in shaping magnetospheric electron dynamics. Using Juno's observations, we investigate these waves in Jupiter's post‐midnight‐to‐dawn magnetosphere, spanning 20–80 Jupiter radii. Our survey reveals that whistler‐mode waves predominantly occur in the lobes, while the magnetodisk remains largely devoid of ...

Basic Features of Global Circulation in the Mesopause Lower Thermosphere Region [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
D1 and D2 techniques have been used and are being used for observations at stations located in the high, middle, and low latitudes of both hemispheres. The systematical and wind velocity measurements with these techniques make it possible to specify and ...

Unique Signatures of Meridional Wind Variations on the Electron Density Distribution Over the Dip Equator

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 18, 28 September 2025.
Abstract We investigate unusual daytime enhancement and undulations observed in Vertical Total Electron Content (VTEC) during the extreme G5 geomagnetic storm on 11 May 2024 over the dip equatorial station Trivandrum, India using a physics‐based ionospheric model.

Saturn Variable Thermosphere

open access: yes, 2016
Our knowledge of Saturns neutral thermosphere is far superior to that of the other giant planets due to Cassini Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrograph (UVIS) observations of 15 solar occultations and 26 stellar occultations analyzed to date. These measurements yield H2 as the dominant species with an upper limit on the H mole fraction of 5 %.

Retrieval of thermospheric parameters from routinely observed F2-layer Ne(h) profiles at the geomagnetic equator

open access: yesJournal of Space Weather and Space Climate, 2013
A principal possibility to retrieve basic thermospheric parameters (neutral temperature Tex, atomic [O] and molecular [O2] oxygen as well as molecular nitrogen [N2] concentrations) from the observed daytime electron density profiles Ne(h) in the ...
