The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Where There is Life There is Mind: In Support of a Strong Life-Mind Continuity Thesis

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
This paper considers questions about continuity and discontinuity between life and mind. It begins by examining such questions from the perspective of the free energy principle (FEP).

Where, how, and how much? A multicenter cohort study of the relationship between lupus decision aid modality, place of administration, interruption and viewing completeness and patient‐reported outcomes

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We assessed whether shared decision‐making (SDM), and patient acceptability, feasibility, and overall satisfaction with a computerized patient decision aid (PtDA) for patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), differs by PtDA setting, modality, and the viewing experience.

The animal sensorimotor organization: a challenge for the environmental complexity thesis

open access: yesBiology & Philosophy, 2017
Godfrey-Smith’s environmental complexity thesis (ECT) is most often applied to multicellular animals and the complexity of their macroscopic environments to explain how cognition evolved. We think that the ECT may be less suited to explain the origins of

Illuminating New Frontiers: Exploring the Photosensitizing Potential of Passiflora Species in Combating Methicillin‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Their Infection in Senescent Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
This study investigates the photosensitizing potential of Passiflora cincinnata in Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) against skin infection caused by Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a senescent murine model. The P. cincinnata exhibits antimicrobial activity, with reduced bacterial load, lower leukocyte infiltration, and ...

SMaRT Stacking: A Methodology to Produce Optimally Layered EMI Shields with Maximal Green Index Using Fused Deposition Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shields consisting of polylactic acid (PLA) in layers with different concentrations of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) are produced using additive manufacturing. The permittivity function of layers with different filler concentrations is learned using data of homogeneous and randomly ordered shields.

An Examination of the Neural Unreliability Thesis of Autism

open access: yesCerebral Cortex, 2016
An emerging neuropathological theory of Autism, referred to here as “the neural unreliability thesis,” proposes greater variability in moment‐to‐moment cortical representation of environmental events, such that the system shows general instability in its
