Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Wiman's inequality for analytic functions in $\mathbb{D}\times\mathbb{C}$ with rapidly oscillating coefficients

open access: yesKarpatsʹkì Matematičnì Publìkacìï, 2018
Let $\mathcal{A}^2$ be a class of analytic functions $f$ represented by power series of the from $$ f(z)=f(z_1,z_2)=\sum^{+\infty}_{n+m=0}a_{nm}z_1^nz^m_2$$ with the domain of convergence $\mathbb{T}=\{ z\in \mathbb{C}^2 \colon |z_1|1, k>0.

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

MOCK THETA FUNCTIONS AND QUANTUM MODULAR FORMS

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Pi, 2013
Ramanujan’s last letter to Hardy concerns the asymptotic properties of modular forms and his ‘mock theta functions’. For the mock theta function $f(q)$, Ramanujan claims that as $q$ approaches an even-order $2k$ root of unity, we have $$\begin{eqnarray ...

Interactions between Molten High‐Silicon Electrical Steels and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how several molten high‐silicon electrical steels interact with both conventional and recycled MgO–C refractories. For this, various immersion experiments are conducted. In addition to infiltration, a number of mechanisms are identified and explained that control the corrosion of the refractory material.

Theta variation and spatiotemporal scaling along the septotemporal axis of the hippocampus

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2015
Hippocampal theta has been related to locomotor speed, attention, anxiety, sensorimotor integration and memory among other emergent phenomena. One difficulty in understanding the function of theta is that the hippocampus (HPC) modulates voluntary ...

Reduction of Feynman integrals in the parametric representation III: integrals with cuts

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
Phase space cuts are implemented by inserting Heaviside theta functions in the integrands of momentum-space Feynman integrals. By directly parametrizing theta functions and constructing integration-by-parts (IBP) identities in the parametric ...

Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

From Algebro Geometric Solutions of the Toda Equation to Sato Formulas

open access: yesAppliedMath
We know that the degeneracy of solutions to PDEs, given in terms of theta functions on Riemann surfaces, provides important results about particular solutions, as in the case of the NLS equation.

Investigation of Laser Ablation and Brush Pre‐Treatments for AlCu Cold Roll Bonding in Oxygen‐Free Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is shown that laser ablation pretreatment under oxygen‐free conditions enables copper–aluminium bonding at significantly lower deformation degrees and improved properties compared to mechanical brushing. Laser ablation further increases interface contact area and induces favourable residual stress states and microstructural compatibility ...
