A Semi-Analytical Solution for Elastic Analysis of Rotating Thick Cylindrical Shells with Variable Thickness Using Disk Form Multilayers

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2014
Using disk form multilayers, a semi-analytical solution has been derived for determination of displacements and stresses in a rotating cylindrical shell with variable thickness under uniform pressure.

Thin and Thick Galactic Disks

open access: yes, 2003
Studies of elemental abundances in stars belonging to the thin and the thick disk of our Galaxy are reviewed. Edvardsson et al. (1993) found strong evidence of [alpha/Fe] variations among F and G main sequence stars with the same [Fe/H] and interpreted these differences as due to radial gradients in the star formation rate in the Galactic disk. Several

Bioresorbable and Wireless Rechargeable Implanted Na‐ion Battery for Temporary Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐solid‐state bioresorbable Na‐ion battery is developed, composed entirely of bio‐eliminable materials. In vivo and ex vivo tests confirmed harmless disintegration of this implanted battery. Lifetime of the implanted battery can be precisely controlled by adjusting the dissolvable encapsulation layer's thickness.

Elemental abundance trends in the metal-rich thin and thick disks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
Thick disks are common in spiral and S0 galaxies and seem to be an inherent part of galaxy formation and evolution. Our own Milky Way is host to an old thick disk. The stars associated with this disk are enhanced in the alpha-elements as compared to similar stars present in the thin disk.

Wearable Haptic Feedback Interfaces for Augmenting Human Touch

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The wearable haptic feedback interfaces enhance user experience in gaming, social media, biomedical instrumentation, and robotics by generating tactile sensations. This review discusses and categorizes current haptic feedback interfaces into force, thermal, and electrotactile stimulation‐based haptic feedback interfaces, elucidating their current ...

ANALYSIS OF COMBINED DISKS WITH PIECEWISE THICKNESS

open access: yesInternational Journal for Computational Civil and Structural Engineering, 2021
The combined constructions subjected to an action of expanding loads and consisting of separate sections are examined. Each of the mentioned sections has its own rigidity. These parts may be made from the same or from the various materials. The materials can be anisotropic or isotropic, homogeneous or inhomogeneous.

Time‐Controlled Dual Targeting to Program Systemic and Intercellular Transfer of Therapeutic Effects

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Aspirin‐liposomes loaded onto monocytes enable inflammation‐triggered targeting and efficient hand‐over of aspirin to inflamed cells. Monocytes uptake a significant portion of aspirin‐liposomes, prolonging therapeutic action. This approach enhances anti‐inflammatory effects through intercellular transfer, demonstrating a translational strategy for ...

Electroplating of Wear‐ and Corrosion‐Resistant CrCoNi Medium‐Entropy Alloys beyond Hard Chromium Coatings

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The electroplating of a CrCoNi medium‐entropy alloy is achieved using a mixture of an ionic liquid and an aqueous solution containing metal salts. The CrCoNi medium‐entropy alloy thin film exhibits high wear and corrosion resistance superior to conventional hard chromium coatings. Abstract High‐entropy alloys (HEAs) and medium‐entropy alloys (MEAs) are

Models of disk chemical evolution focusing the pure dynamical radial mixing

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
We performed N-body simulations to study the dynamical evolution of a stellar disk inside a Dark Matter (DM) halo. Our results evidence how a standard -radially decreasing- metallicity gradient produces a negative vϕ vs.

LMC Microlensing and Very Thick Disks [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
We investigate the implications of a very thick (scale height 1.5 - 3.0 kpc) disk population of MACHOs. Such a population represents a reasonable alternative to standard halo configurations of a lensing population. We find that very thick disk distributions can lower the lens mass estimate derived from the microlensing data toward the LMC, although an ...
