Numerical analysis of a multi-pass pumping Yb:YAG thick-disk laser with minimal heat generation.

Applied Optics, 2018
A theoretical model is established to describe the dynamic behavior and fractional thermal load of a multi-pass pumping Yb:YAG thick-disk laser, which is pumped at 1030 nm and emits laser radiation at around 1048 nm.

The birth of the Milky Way: the in-situ halo and early thick disk as uncovered by accurate stellar ages with Gaia

, 2019
As Milky Way-like galaxies form, smaller stellar systems accrete onto the main galactic progenitor, assembling a kinematically hot, spheroidal-like stellar halo surrounding the galactic disc.

The Galactic Thick Disk – Status [PDF]

open access: possibleAstrophysics and Space Science, 1999
The status of the Galactic thick disk is reviewed. Consideration of the recent literature suggests that its vertical scale height and normalisation with respect to the thin disk remain uncertain to within a factor two, with values reported in the ranges 750–1500 pc, and 0.02–0.13, respectively.

Electrostatics of a thick disk

Journal of Applied Physics, 1999
An integral equation method is developed and applied to solve approximately the electrostatic problem of a drum-shaped conductor, one whose plane faces have a separation small compared with their diameter and what is called a thick disk. The approximate method is an asymptotic process by which capacitance formulas are obtained corresponding to the ...

Transient waves in a thick disk

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1994
Transient elastic waves in a free thick disk are analyzed by a modal method. Eigenfunctions are determined by applying the Galerkin technique to trial functions which satisfy the differential equations and shear free conditions on all boundaries. The disk is forced concentrically by a trapezoidal pulse of short duration.

Disk Galaxies with Finite Thickness

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2002
The effect of finite thickness on the properties of disk galaxies is calculated on the basis of a rigorous mathematical treatment in terms of Green function and Bessel Fourier transformation. In our approach, the mass of the galactic halo is determined by fitting the observed rotation curve with a five-component model.
