A DYNAMIC MODEL FOR THICK ELASTIC PLATES

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1999
Summary: The general equations of motion for thick elastic plates with arbitrary shape are derived by using a variational principle. In addition to the influences of the bending, the transverse shear deformation and the rotatory inertia, the proposed theory also contains the effects of the transverse normal stress and the membrane forces. The equations

Buckling of moderately thick composite plates

Composite Structures, 1991
Abstract In this paper an analysis of the buckling behaviour of anisotropic elastic plates is developed. The analysis is carried out by using a finite-element technique based on a shear-deformable plate model. Numerical results are also given relative to buckling of laminated plates under uniform axial compression, together with some comparisons ...

Damping Characteristics of Laminated Thick Plates

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
We develop the analysis for the exact three-dimensional viscoelastic solution for simply supported, thick multilayered composite plate strips. Each layer is assumed to possess monoclinic or higher material symmetry and to be perfectly bonded to adjacent layers.

Introduction to “Plates with Thickness”

In Part II we treated plates as two-dimensional structural elements and could therefore establish theories in a consistent, straightforwardway.

Thickness effect on the spectral properties of thick plates

Communications in Applied Numerical Methods, 1988
AbstractIn this paper is shown the effect of plate thickness on the spectral properties of the stiffness matrix which is obtained from finite element representation. The results confirm the very stiff properties associated with the strain energy based on Reissner and Mindlin theories in the case of thin plates.

Thick plate elements

1992
Abstract The analysis of thick plates must allow for the additional deformations of the plate caused by transverse shearing, and appropriate equations for this were discussed in Section 2.7. These equations have been implemented in a variety of ways for rectangular finite elements but may meet with difficulties in triangular elements.

On the Elastodynamic Theory of Thick Circular Plates

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 1980
AbstractConsidering elastodynamic deformation of circular plates, this paper presents a generalization of the method of initial functions in cylindrical coordinates. The governing equations of the theory are derived from the three dimensional elastodynamic equations. The method is applied to the free vibration of the clamped circular plate.
