Oxide Thickness Losses in Tape Playback

The thickness of the tape oxide coating layer affects high frequency response and manifests itself as a combination of recording and playback losses. The tradeoff here is that thick oxide coatings promote greater output at long wavelengths at the expense of extended output at shorter wavelengths.
