Surface flaws control strain localization in the deformation of Cu$\vert$Au nanolaminates

open access: yes, 2019
We carried out matched experiments and molecular dynamics simulations of the compression of nanopillars prepared from Cu$\vert$Au nanolaminates with 25 nm layer thickness.

Viscous overstability and eccentricity evolution in three-dimensional gaseous discs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We investigate the growth or decay rate of the fundamental mode of even symmetry in a viscous accretion disc. This mode occurs in eccentric discs and is known to be potentially overstable.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Effect of Brazing Fillet on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Vacuum Brazing Stainless Steel Joints

open access: yesMetals, 2023
The enhancement mechanism of the fillet on brazing joints is of great significance for vacuum brazing technology. Although a lot of research on the enhancement mechanism of the fillet has been carried out, some key components of a comprehensive ...

Numerical simulation of the dynamic response in pulse-loaded fibre-metal-laminated plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This article presents a three-dimensional constitutive model to replicate the dynamic response of blastloaded fibre–metal laminates made of 2024-0 aluminium alloy and woven composite (glass fibre–reinforced polypropylene).

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

An Energy Approach to the Modal Identification of a Variable Thickness Quartz Crystal Plate

open access: yesSensors
The primary objective of modal identification for variable thickness quartz plates is to ascertain their dominant operating mode, which is essential for examining the vibration of beveled quartz resonators.

New Method of Vapour Discrimination Using the Thickness Shear Mode (TSM) Resonator

open access: yesSensors, 2003
The Impedance analysis technique complimented with curve fitting software was used to monitor changes in film properties of Thickness Shear Mode (TSM) resonator on vapour exposure.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Numerical simulation of fracture patterns in roof strata with different thicknesses

open access: yesScientific Reports
Roof breaking is the root cause of rock burst and mine earthquake. However, the classical “thin plate theory” and “thick plate theory” cannot fully reveal the mechanical mechanism of the influence of roof thickness-span ratio on the fracture mode.
