Thickness‐dependent swelling of molecular layer‐by‐layer polyamide nanomembranes

Journal of Polymer Science, Part B: Polymer Physics, 2017
ABSTRACTThe thickness‐dependent water vapor swelling of molecular layer‐by‐layer polyamide films is studied via specular X‐ray reflectivity. The maximum swelling ratio of these ultrathin films scale inversely with thickness but more importantly show a dual‐mode sorption behavior characterized by Langmuir‐like sorption at low relative humidity and ...

Hygroscopic thickness swelling rate of composites from sawdust and recycled plastics

Wood Science and Technology, 2007
The thickness swelling rates of compression molded wood plastic composites (WPCs) prepared from 50% by weight sawdust and 50% by weight virgin and/or recycled plastics (HDPE and PP) were studied. Thickness swelling rates of the manufactured WPCs were evaluated by immersing them in water at room temperature and monitoring thickness changes for several ...

Improving the Thickness-Swelling (TS) of Castor-Stalk Based Panel

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2011
Castor-oil stalk is one kind of excellent woody materials, and the thickness swelling ( TS ) of the castor-oil stalk based panel with Urea- formaldehyde resin ( UF ) cannot meet the requirement of the Standard of People’s Republic of China. the TS of the panel was improved with wax emulsion. Results showed that the mechanical properties and the TS of ...

Hybrid composites made from recycled materials: Moisture absorption and thickness swelling behavior

Bioresource Technology, 2010
In this research, hybrid composite materials were made from the combination of recycled newspaper fiber (RNF) and poplar wood flour (PWF) as reinforcement, recycled polypropylene (RPP) as polymer matrix, and maleated polypropylene (MAPP) as coupling agent, by using injection molding.

Contribution of wood fiber hygroexpansion to moisture induced thickness swelling of composite plates

open access: yesPolymer Composites, 2009
AbstractOne of the main drawbacks of wood fiber‐based composite materials is their propensity to swell due to moisture uptake. Because the wood fibers are usually the main contributor to hygroexpansion, it is of interest to quantify the hygroexpansion coefficient of wood fibers, to compare and rank different types of fibers. This investigation outlines

Swelling of Thick Polymer Brushes Investigated with Ellipsometry

Langmuir, 1999
We have investigated the swelling of a polystyrene brush in cyclohexane at varying temperatures with angle-dependent ellipsometry. The brush was grown in situ on the base of a high index prism by the “grafting from” technique. In the dry state it has a thickness of d = 134 nm. At the θ temperature it swells to about 600 nm.

Thickness swelling and density variation in aspen flakeboards

Wood Science and Technology, 1991
This paper reports the relationship between thickness swelling and density in labmade aspen flakeboards. The boards were manufactured with several levels of initial mat moisture content and urea resin content. Weight increase and thickness swelling at 12 locations on each board were recorded under specified environmental conditions over a period of 71 ...

Thickness Swelling and Water Absorption Character of Laminate Floor

Advanced Materials Research, 2013
Laminate floor coverings, with fiberboard in the middle layer, are hygroscopic which caused potential dimension instability. The paper tested thickness swelling (TS) and water absorption (WA) of 10 commercial laminate floors (LF) according to G/T 18102-2007 (GB/T) and LY/T 1611-2011(LY/T) and analyzed correlation between them.

The Structure and Swelling of Corneal Scar Tissue in Penetrating Full-Thickness Wounds

Cornea, 2004
The purpose of this study was to determine corneal thickness and to examine the collagen and proteoglycans in full-thickness corneal scars up to 16 months following wounding.Ultrasound pachymetry was used to measure the depths of penetrating central scars and their surrounding areas in 16 rabbit corneas. Measurements were taken at regular intervals: 5,
