The Buckling of Thin-Walled Open-Profile Bars
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1989The theory of buckling for thin-walled open-profile bars is criticized. Its several derivations are faulted for violating statics, using a variational theorem approximately, using an incorrect variational statement, and/or using an inconsistent filament representation of the bar.

Nonlinear analysis of thin walled bars of open cross-section
International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1983Abstract Energy equations governing the goemetrically nonlinear behaviour of thin walled bars of open cross-section when subjected to axial, flexural and torsional displacements, are derived. The equations are based on the assumption of small displacements and linear elastic material behaviour.

Coupled Vibrations of Thin-Walled Elastic Bars
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1965A study of the coupled torsional and bending vibrations of thin-walled beams of asymmetric open section is made. The validity of existing theories has been examined both analytically and experimentally. Analytically, a higher order theory that includes effects of shear strains induced by bending and warping was constructed and compared with the ...

The application of graph theory to the limit analysis for torsion of thin‐walled bars
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 1988AbstractGraph theory is employed in this paper as a means to establish the topological model of complex thin‐walled cross‐sections. On this basis, the upper and lower bound theorems of the plastic limit analysis are applied to the analysis of the plastic limit shear flows on the cross‐section of thin‐walled bars under St. Venant torsion.

A new high-order multi-joint finite element for thin-walled bar
Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 2002A new high-order multi-joint finite element for thin-walled bar was derived from the Hermite interpolation polynomial and minimum potential energy principle. This element's characteristics are that it is of high accuracy and can be used in finite method analysis of bridge, tall mega-structure building.

Hypergraphs in investigation of trajectory of robot's manipulator with links as thin-walled bars
Automation in Construction, 1998A 3-dimensional model of an industrial robot's manipulator is discussed here. The manipulator is built of two links. Each link is a bar of thin walls, with a box-shaped cross section. Harmonical forces and moments work on both ends of each bar. Lengthwisely and flexibly vibrating robot model is presented in the form of two-block hypergraph. On the base

Free Vibrations of Thin‐Walled Bars with Open Cross Sections
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1987An application of the finite element method to the theory of thin‐walled bars of variable, open cross section is presented. A thin‐walled bar is considered as a special case of the membrane shell with internal constraints (Vlasov's and Wagner's assumptions).

Vibrational Analysis of Thin‐Walled Bars with Open Cross Sections
Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989Natural frequencies and corresponding modal forms for thin‐walled bars of constant and open cross section are examined using the finite element method. Following the classical thin‐walled bar theory, warping and Saint‐Venant torsional rigidities are accounted for.

Interaction of the Buckling of Thin-Walled Bars with the Buckling of Their Plate Elements
1983The design of the plate elements of compressed bars is based on the requirement that local buckling shall not occur before the bar as a whole has buckled while the effect of all initial imperfections is neglected.

Natural Frequencies of Thin‐Walled Bars of Open Cross Section
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1987The natural vibration frequencies of thin‐walled bars of open cross section are studied, with particular emphasis on the influence of asymmetry and destabilizing forces on the interaction between various modes. It is concluded that interactive vibrations are induced by both asymmetry and destabilizing forces.
