An Asymptotic Non-Linear Model for Thin-Walled Rods

open access: yesComptes Rendus - Mecanique, 2004
In this paper, we present a non-linear one-dimensional model for thin-walled rods with open strongly curved cross-section, obtained by asymptotic methods. A dimensional analysis of the non-linear three-dimensional equilibrium equations lets appear dimensionless numbers which reflect the geometry of the structure and the level of applied forces.

Bending and Cramped Torsion of Thin-Walled Rods

Mechanics of Solids, 2019
The derivation of the equilibrium equations of bending and torsion of a thin-walled rod with an arbitrary contour of the cross section is given. The structural elements of the rod, represented by longeron and stringer belts, have tensile–compressive rigidity, and the panels perceive only shear.

An Asymptotic Linear Thin-Walled Rod Model Coupling Twist and Bending [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Applied Mechanics, 2011
A linear one-dimensional model for thin-walled rods with open strongly curved cross-section, obtained by asymptotic methods is presented. A dimensional analysis of the linear three-dimensional equilibrium equations yields dimensionless numbers that reflect the geometry of the structure and the level of applied forces. For a given force level, the order

Justification of the Kinematic Assumptions for Thin-Walled Rods With Shallow Profile

open access: yesComptes Rendus - Mecanique, 2005
In this Note we present a justification of the kinematic assumptions for thin-walled rods with shallow profile. These assumptions are fundamental to writing the one-dimensional equilibrium equations for such structures. The obtained kinematics are different from the Vlassov case, which is only valid for strongly curved profiles. They are also different

Forced Vibrations of a Thin-Walled Rod of a Symmetric Profile

2021
The paper provides an analytical solution to the problem of natural and forced vibrations of a thin-walled elastic rod with a symmetric profile. The mathematical model also considers the forces of viscous resistance, which, in accordance with the frequency-independent Voigt hypothesis, are introduced in the process of solving the problem.

Model of thin-walled anisotropic rods

Mechanics of Composite Materials, 1988
This article proposes a model of a thin-walled anisotropic rod with a closed profile. The model is based on the adoption of kinematic hypotheses and the use of equations for thin anisotropic shells. The kinematic hypotheses describe the strain state of the cross section of the rod.
