Dual‐Mode Gripper With Suction and Shape‐Adaptive Freezing Grasps

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study presents a dual‐mode robotic gripper that combines vacuum suction with a shape‐adaptive freezing grasp. The freezing mode uses a compliant rubber membrane, a sprayed water layer, and dry‐ice powder to generate ice‐mediated adhesion while conforming to complex geometries.

A brush-coating approach to achieve anisotropic optical film via field-induced stretching of carbon nanotube clusters in a reactive mesogen

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2020
We present a novel brush coating method for fabricating a coatable polarizer that utilizes a mixture of functionalized single-walled carbon nanotubes (h-SWCNTs) grafted with carboxyl and hydroxyl groups and a reactive mesogen (RM), which possess a long ...

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Early Retinal UCHL1 Dysregulation Coupled With Synaptic Loss Reflects Alzheimer's Disease Severity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies synapse‐enriched deubiquitinase UCHL1 as an early Aβ‐responsive regulator of retinal synaptopathy in Alzheimer's disease. Retinal UCHL1 loss accompanies excitatory synapse degeneration, p75NTR activation, and neuroinflammation, and predicts Braak stage and cognitive decline. Aβ42 fibrils trigger synaptic and UCHL1 depletion before
