Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

STUDYONDEFORMATIONFORMANDENERGYABSORPTIONCHARACTERISTICS OF METAL THIN-WALLED SANDWICH STRUCTURE (MT)

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2023
A thin-walled sandwich structure filled with polyurethane is introduced. Based on the hyperelastic constitutive model of polyurethane, the energy absorption characteristics of the structure are studied and compared with single-layer and double-layer thin-

Effect of laser texturing on mechanical strength and microstructure of ultrasonically welded ABS to aluminum alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The rapid and solid joining of thermoplastic to metal is of great significance for structural lightweighting. A thermoplastic acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and laser textured 5052 Al is joined by ultrasonic welding with longitude wave in this ...

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Numerical modeling of basalt roll fire-protection for light steel thin-walled structures

open access: yesMagazine of Civil Engineering, 2022
The authors investigate the fire-protective efficiency of a basalt roll material, which is used for light steel thin-walled structures. The values of fire-protective efficiency for the steel C-shaped profiles without fire protection made of basalt wool ...

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
