Bearing capacity of compressed continuous and perforated thin-walled steel members of C-shaped cold-formed profiles [PDF]

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2013
Nowadays there is steady rising demand for thin-walled light-weight steel structures. But the shortage of relevant standards on their design and use taking into account Russian conditions leads to the current situation when thin-walled light-weight steel

Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Achieving 100 %-efficiency joint in rotary friction welding of thin-walled Al alloy drive shafts via high friction pressure and short-time post-weld heat treatment

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Rotary friction welding (RFW) was employed to join large diameter thin-walled Al–Mg–Si–Cu alloy drive shafts. The coupling effects of friction pressure and post-weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of the ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

A comparative study on cryogenic formability and paint baking property of AA7075 alloy sheets tempered at fast retrogressed and pre-aged conditions

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Forming at cryogenic temperatures provides a new approach to the formability improvement of 7000-series high-strength aluminum alloys. However, the cryogenic forming process based on solution-treated (W) or peak artificial aged (T6) alloys cannot meet ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

Effect of Mg interlayer on the microstructure and mechanical performance of resistance rivet welded 2 mm Al and ultra-high strength steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Resistance rivet welding (RRW) using semi-tubular rivet was employed to join 2 mm thick AA6061 T6 Al alloy and ultra-high strength steel (UHSS). The influence of a Mg interlayer on the evolution of joint microstructure, mechanical performance and ...
